Ugandan security operatives have carried out coordinated searches at residences linked to Parliament Speaker Anita Among in Kampala and Wakiso District, in operations that have drawn national and regional attention around governance and political accountability. According to a report by Daily Monitor, the searches targeted properties in the upscale neighborhoods of Nakasero and Kigo.

Powerful political figures, serving as Speaker of Parliament since 2022 and playing a central role within President Yoweri Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Her political influence has grown steadily in recent years, particularly during periods of heightened debate over governance, public spending, and parliamentary authority in Uganda.

The first operation reportedly unfolded at Among’s Nakasero residence in central Kampala, where heavily armed joint security teams sealed off parts of the area for several hours while investigators conducted searches inside the compound. Witnesses cited by local media described multiple security vehicles, plain-clothed operatives, and restricted access around the property throughout the day.

Attention later shifted to another residence linked to the Speaker in Kigo, near the Entebbe Expressway close to Uganda’s main international airport. Footage circulating online appeared to show an extensive security deployment around the property, including elite personnel and police patrol vehicles.

Authorities have not publicly detailed the exact nature of the investigation or disclosed whether any items were recovered during the searches. However, the operations come amid growing scrutiny over corruption and unexplained wealth allegations involving senior public officials in Uganda, issues that have increasingly shaped political discourse inside the country and among international governance observers.

Uganda has faced repeated calls from anti-corruption activists and international watchdogs to strengthen institutional transparency and accountability mechanisms. Reports from groups including Transparency International and discussions around governance reforms within East Africa have continued to place pressure on public institutions across the region.

The developments also emerge at a politically sensitive moment for Kampala, as Uganda positions itself around regional diplomacy, security cooperation, and economic investment ahead of upcoming political cycles. Analysts say investigations involving senior political figures often attract wider regional attention because of Uganda’s strategic role in East African politics and security affairs.

As of Monday, neither Anita Among nor her close aides had publicly issued a detailed statement addressing the operations. Ugandan authorities also had not announced whether formal charges or further legal action would follow.
