Tory Lanez says he remains innocent and is preparing to challenge his conviction as his legal team moves forward with an appeal that he believes could significantly alter the outcome of his case.
The Canadian-born rapper is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence related to the 2022 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. After spending roughly three years in custody, Lanez has maintained that new evidence has emerged that was not presented during the original trial.
In a recent interview from prison with NBC News, Lanez said the material he plans to introduce on appeal is substantial and could raise serious questions about the prosecution’s case. He described the evidence as “overwhelming,” while continuing to deny any intent to harm Megan Thee Stallion.
According to reports, the new evidence is connected to a separate defamation lawsuit filed by Megan Thee Stallion against blogger Milagro Gramz. During that case, Gramz’s attorney reportedly uncovered documents that were not identified during the 2022 criminal trial. Lanez’s defense team is now seeking access to bullet fragments from the shooting and Megan Thee Stallion’s medical records, which they say were never turned over during the original proceedings.
Lanez also told NBC News that he does not believe violence against women reflects who he is and said he regrets not taking the stand in his own defense, adding that he believes the trial outcome could have been different had he testified.
His attorneys are expected to formally file the appeal in the coming days. The legal push comes amid ongoing concerns about Lanez’s incarceration, which has included a near-fatal stabbing that resulted in his transfer to the California Men’s Colony.
The appeal process could take months, and there is no guarantee the conviction will be overturned.
However, Lanez’s legal team maintains that the newly identified evidence warrants further judicial review.
