Grammy-winning singer Tems has opened up about the challenges she faced at the start of her music career, including being booed during a school performance where she had expected a warm reception.

According to Tems, she had anticipated a standing ovation when she performed at her school as an emerging artist. Instead, the audience reacted negatively.


“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation. But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she said. I expected standing ovation, go…


Despite the incident, Tems said the experience did not deter her from pursuing music. She acknowledged that early rejections were partly due to her decision to maintain her original sound rather than follow trends or perform cover songs.


Looking back, the two-time Grammy winner expressed gratitude for staying true to her artistic direction despite the setbacks.
