South Kivu’s Provincial Assembly has scheduled a plenary session for Tuesday, April 28, 2026, to hear and debate a motion of censure against Governor Jean-Jacques Purusi Sadiki, according to 7sur7.cd. The session is expected to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the assembly’s provisional headquarters in Kavimvira, in the city of Uvira.

The motion was introduced by provincial deputy Karume Bahinge Jean, elected from Mwenga territory under the UDPS banner. According to the report, the initiative has gathered 18 signatures from provincial deputies, a sign that the political challenge against the governor has moved beyond a single-member complaint.

The motion’s backers accuse Governor Purusi of weak management in areas of South Kivu still under government control, as well as opaque handling of provincial finances. These remain allegations at this stage and will be examined during the scheduled hearing and debate.

The debate comes at a sensitive moment for South Kivu. The province has been affected by insecurity linked to the AFC/M23 conflict, while provincial institutions have continued operating from Uvira amid pressure on parts of the province. Radio Okapi also reported that the motion was deposited on April 21 and has stirred public debate in the province.

It wa also reported separately that the motion was filed during a period of deep security crisis in South Kivu, with deputies from political groups including UDPS and UNC among those associated with the initiative.

The April 28 plenary will therefore be a key procedural step. Deputies are expected to hear the motion, debate the accusations, and determine the next stage of the process. A censure motion, if carried forward successfully, could increase institutional pressure on the provincial executive.

For now, the confirmed development is the scheduled hearing and debate.

The outcome will depend on the assembly’s proceedings and whether the motion’s supporters can maintain enough political backing after the governor’s response.
