Veteran Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello is challenging a growing mindset she believes is affecting many young women today: the idea that attention, beauty, and success must come through social media validation or transactional relationships.
Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bello shared a candid message about self-worth, encouraging women to see themselves as more than what they can gain from public approval or financial arrangements.
According to The Morayo Show, the actress expressed concern about the increasing pressure on young women to seek relevance through revealing content and online popularity. She argued that genuine confidence and influence are built through personal development, purpose, and self-respect rather than viral moments.
Bello also pushed back against the belief that physical exposure is necessary to be seen as attractive or valuable. In her view, many young women need stronger reminders that their worth should not be measured by likes, trends, or how much attention they can attract online.
The conversation also touched on the rise of what is commonly known as “runs”—transactional relationships often linked to financial support. Rather than condemning women involved in such situations, Bello acknowledged the economic realities many face.
She noted that some women are carrying heavy responsibilities, from supporting their families to paying school fees and covering everyday expenses. Those pressures, she said, can push people into difficult choices.
Still, Bello stressed that financial hardship should not become a permanent identity. She encouraged women to pursue opportunities that offer independence, dignity, and long-term stability, insisting that their current circumstances do not define their future.
The actress also reflected on her own career journey, explaining why she has remained committed to acting despite opportunities to pursue other ventures. For Bello, purpose matters more than chasing money alone.
Her comments arrive at a time when conversations around social media culture, self-image, and economic pressure continue to shape discussions across Nigeria and beyond. By sharing her perspective, Bello is adding her voice to a wider debate about ambition, value, and what success should really look like for young women navigating modern life.
