SOUTH AFRICA — 15 October 2026. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has changed its November 2026 grant payment dates ahead of the 4 November local government elections.
Under the revised schedule announced on Wednesday, 14 October, older persons will be paid on Friday, 30 October, disability beneficiaries on Monday, 2 November, and children's grant recipients on Tuesday, 3 November. A separate payment day for beneficiaries whose grants are under review is set for Thursday, 5 November.
The agency said the new arrangement, approved by National Treasury after consultations, is intended to protect payment services during the election period. The shift changes when November grants are paid, not the month to which they belong, according to IOL's report of SASSA's announcement.
When will SASSA pay November 2026 grants?
Older Persons Grants are due on Friday, 30 October; Disability Grants on Monday, 2 November; and Children's Grants on Tuesday, 3 November. Thursday, 5 November is a separate day for beneficiaries whose grants are under review. The October payment belongs to November's cycle, not an extra grant.
Revised SASSA November 2026 payment dates: old versus new
SASSA's previously published 2026/27 calendar placed older persons on 3 November, disability grants on 4 November and children's grants on 5 November. Those dates have now been replaced for this November cycle only. The old calendar can still be seen in the Department of Social Development's published 2026/27 schedule; readers should use the newer announcement for November.
This comparison reflects the dates reported by eNCA and SASSA's separate fourth-day arrangement. The normal three-category schedule does not assign a universal payday to every grant type. Anyone uncertain about a linked grant or a particular account should check directly with SASSA.
The practical result is that older persons are paid four calendar days earlier than first scheduled. Disability and children's grant dates move two days earlier; the fourth review date moves one day earlier. Those changes make a difference for households planning groceries, electricity, medication and transport around a regular grant.

Why does a November SASSA payment fall in October?
The 30 October date is an advance in timing, not a second October entitlement. It means that the November Older Persons Grant becomes payable before the calendar month begins. It does not mean beneficiaries have been awarded a bonus, a double payment or a new grant amount.
SASSA's ordinary approach is to stagger the main permanent grants over several days to manage the payment system and reduce congestion. But the originally scheduled disability payment of 4 November conflicted with the local government election. As eNCA reported, SASSA sought National Treasury approval after identifying the clash.
The election date itself is confirmed in the Electoral Commission's 14 October readiness statement: voting day is Wednesday, 4 November 2026, with special voting on 2 and 3 November. The revised grant schedule is intended to reduce disruption around that period, not to change beneficiaries' voting rights or eligibility for social assistance.
What does the 5 November review-payment day mean?
Thursday, 5 November is not another general children's-grant payday. It is the separate, fourth payment date SASSA has allocated to beneficiaries whose grants are subject to a review process. Reporting by Voice of the Cape confirms that the agency told affected recipients to respond to its communications and attend review appointments when requested.
A review checks whether the circumstances relevant to a person's continued grant eligibility still meet the rules. SASSA's government-published explanation of the fourth payment day says selected beneficiaries are normally taken out of the regular three-day payment sequence. It also warns that ignoring a required review can put the grant at risk of suspension or lapse under the applicable rules.
The date on the calendar should therefore not be interpreted as automatic approval of every payment that is being investigated or verified. An individual who has received a review notice should follow the instructions relevant to that case, rather than assuming the fourth day resolves an outstanding eligibility issue.

What beneficiaries should do before their payment date
If you receive an ordinary Older Persons, Disability or Children's Grant and have not been asked to complete a review, plan around the revised date for your category. SASSA has told the public not to rush to its offices merely to enquire about the new schedule, according to Sowetan's report of the agency statement.
If you have been selected for review, read the official SMS or other notification carefully. SASSA's earlier instructions say to keep contact information up to date and attend the appointment with the documents requested. These can include identity documents, income evidence and relevant bank statements, depending on the grant and the notice. Do not send identity or banking information to someone who contacts you through an unverified link.
Beneficiaries can use the official SASSA contact information to enquire about payment problems. The government's listing confirms the grant and fraud hotline as 0800 60 10 11. If your usual payment does not arrive, check the applicable date and your individual situation before travelling to an office.
For payment-method issues, XTRAfrica also has a separate SASSA banking-details guide. Changing a bank account is not the same task as responding to a grant review; follow the procedure for the kind of grant you receive.
Does this change the SRD R370 payment calendar?
The revised announcement sets dates for the main permanent-grant categories and the special fourth review day. It does not publish a single November payday for every Social Relief of Distress (SRD R370) recipient. The SRD programme uses individual application and payment-status checks rather than the same three-category calendar.
SRD applicants should use the official SASSA SRD portal and consult XTRAfrica's guide to checking SRD status with an ID number and registered cellphone. A November 5 date appearing in a news headline about reviewed permanent grants should not be treated as a promise that every SRD application will be paid that day.

Is SASSA paying a November grant on 30 October?
Yes. The 30 October date is for the November Older Persons Grant. The earlier payment date does not create an additional October grant.
Will disability grants still be paid on election day, 4 November?
No. SASSA has moved the disability payment date to Monday, 2 November 2026. The original 4 November date is superseded.
When are children's grants paid for November 2026?
The revised date is Tuesday, 3 November 2026, instead of Thursday, 5 November.
Does the November 5 fourth payment day apply to everybody?
No. The additional date concerns grants identified for review. Beneficiaries should follow their individual notice, including any appointment and documentation requirements.
Do I need to visit a SASSA office just because the dates changed?
No. SASSA has advised against unnecessary visits simply to ask about the published dates. Use official channels for confirmed updates; contact the agency if you have an individual payment problem or have been instructed to attend a review.
Where can I find the whole year's calendar?
XTRAfrica's 2026 SASSA payment and status-check guide covers the annual cycle. For November 2026, use the revised dates in this report rather than the older row originally issued in March.
The next practical milestone is Friday, 30 October 2026, when the revised November payment cycle begins for older persons. Beneficiaries should rely on SASSA's official communications if individual instructions or the announced arrangements change.
