Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has regained his freedom after spending about one week in police custody following a court appearance in Ogun State.
The artist was released after being arraigned before a court in Ota, Ogun State, where he faced multiple charges. Shortly after his release, a video shared online showed Portable surrounded by associates as he addressed supporters and announced that he had adopted a new name, “Innocenty.”
The singer appeared composed and in good spirits in the footage, which marked his first public appearance since leaving custody.
Portable’s manager, Baby Luv, also shared a photograph of the singer with his first wife, Bewaji, on Instagram. In the post, she expressed gratitude and praised Bewaji for standing by the singer throughout his legal challenges.
“All glory to God. Grace spoke, mercy prevailed. #Freedom,” she wrote, adding that Bewaji remained supportive during the difficult period.
According to court proceedings, Portable was arraigned on January 12 on allegations including assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest. He was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 reportedly valued at ₦12 million.
The court did not grant bail at the hearing, reportedly due to the absence of the police officer handling the case. The matter is expected to continue at a later date.
