American singer Meghan Trainor has responded to criticism following the birth of her third child through surrogacy, stating that the decision was made based on medical advice and family safety.
Trainor and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, welcomed their third child earlier this month with the help of a surrogate. Speaking in an interview with People magazine, the singer said surrogacy was the best and safest option available to them after consultations with medical professionals.
“Surrogacy is another meaningful way to build a family,” Trainor said, adding that each family’s journey is different and deserves respect. She emphasized that the process involved trust, science, cooperation, and love.
Trainor noted that surrogacy was not initially their first choice but became necessary after discussions with doctors. She also expressed gratitude toward the surrogate, describing her as compassionate, dedicated, and supportive throughout the process.
The couple named their newborn son Mikey Moon Trainor. The birth was publicly announced on January 21, 2026. Mikey joins his two older brothers, Riley, aged four, and Barry, aged two.
Trainor is a Grammy Award–winning artist and remains one of the most prominent figures in contemporary pop music.
