Civil society in Buabo has warned of worsening insecurity in Masisi territory, North Kivu, after Radio Okapi reported that at least 15 civilians were killed in armed attacks over the past month.
The latest reported attack took place overnight from Sunday, April 26, to Monday, April 27, in Kihuma village, where armed men allegedly looted sewing machines, clothing, money and other valuables.
Local civil society says the Buabo group and other areas of the Osso-Banyungu sector have faced repeated attacks, kidnappings, looting and clashes involving armed groups and Wazalendo militias.
The warning comes as eastern DRC remains under severe security pressure. The UN has recently warned that fighting in North and South Kivu continues to expose civilians to major risks, including the use of heavier weapons and drones.
Masisi has also remained central to the conflict involving AFC/M23 and pro-government forces, with recent reporting pointing to continued clashes in southern Masisi and nearby areas.
Civil society groups are calling attention to what they describe as repeated violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, urging stronger action to protect civilians in areas affected by armed group activity.
