While former U.S. President Donald Trump recently claimed that America helped "settle a war in Rwanda and the Congo," ongoing violence on the ground tells another story.

According to Radio Okapi, intense clashes broke out on May 21, 2025, between Wazalendo fighters and Rwanda-backed M23/AFC rebels near Kahuzi-Biega National Park, in the Kabare territory of South Kivu. The rebels attacked a Wazalendo position in Kabushwa village, an area previously untouched by this war.

The result?

🔺 Fresh civilian displacement

🔺 Wazalendo forced to withdraw

🔺 Kabushwa now under rebel control

Radio Okapi reports that many residents fled in fear, while illegal resource exploiters also abandoned the park as rebel presence spread.

This marks the first direct clash in Kabare since February, exposing the ongoing threat and disproving any illusion of peace.
