Rwandan reggae artistes including Mighty Popo, Ras Kayaga, Lion Imanzi and Imena Band are set to headline a special concert in Kigali to honour reggae legend Bob Marley.
The “Bob Marley Tribute Show” is scheduled to take place at Kigali Universe on May 9, 2026, as part of activities marking the legacy of the Jamaican musician, who died on May 11, 1981.
According to organisers, the event aims to celebrate Marley’s contribution to global music, African identity and messages of unity and peace that continue to resonate decades after his death.
Speaking to InyaRwanda, musician and Nyundo School of Music director Mighty Popo said Bob Marley played a major role in helping many Africans better understand their heritage and culture through music.
“His songs helped shape us and taught us about Africa and our identity,” Mighty Popo said, adding that Marley’s music extended beyond entertainment to messages about unity, justice and social awareness.
Songs such as No Woman No Cry, One Love, Buffalo Soldier, Redemption Song and Three Little Birds remain among Marley’s most influential works and continue to inspire audiences across generations.
Organisers said the concert will also serve as a platform to unite reggae fans in Rwanda while promoting the values of peace, solidarity and cultural appreciation associated with Marley’s legacy.
The show is expected to attract reggae lovers from across Kigali and celebrate the continued influence of reggae music in Rwanda’s entertainment scene.
