Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has shared insights into her marriage to legendary actor Olu Jacobs, saying that relationships with older men can come with certain advantages.

Speaking during an appearance on TVC’s “Your View,” the 64-year-old actress reflected on her decades-long marriage and the dynamics created by their age difference. Silva revealed that Jacobs, who is 20 years older than her, has often been more tolerant and understanding in their relationship.

According to Silva, one of the benefits of marrying an older partner is the level of patience and flexibility they may bring to the relationship.

Older men allow you to get away with a lot of things,” she said while discussing her experience.

Silva and Jacobs first met through their work in the entertainment industry. She recalled that they initially crossed paths on stage and later on a movie set.

Yes, we met on stage and later on a movie set. Everybody knew it was the great Olu Jacobs who was coming — except me,” she explained.

The actress added that although Jacobs fell in love with her at first sight, she did not immediately share the same feelings. Their relationship, however, developed over time.

We got on very well, and it was after we started dating that I discovered his age because he looked so good,” she said.

Silva married Jacobs in 1985, when she was 24 years old and he was 44. The couple has remained one of Nollywood’s most admired partnerships, staying together for more than four decades and raising two children.

Their enduring marriage is often cited as one of the longest-standing relationships in Nigeria’s film industry.
