KINSHASA, — September 1, 2026 — Congolese journalist and social-media figure Denise Mukendi Dusauchoy is back in Kinshasa after being arrested in Tanzania under a warrant issued by judicial authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The DRC Ministry of Justice confirmed that Tanzanian authorities arrested Dusauchoy on August 30, 2026, saying the operation was carried out through mechanisms of international judicial cooperation.
The ministry said the arrest followed judicial steps connected to criminal cases still under investigation in Kinshasa. It also stressed that the arrest is a procedural measure and does not establish guilt. Dusauchoy remains presumed innocent in those pending cases until a final judicial decision.
An Arrest That Crossed Borders
According to the Justice Ministry, Tanzanian authorities executed a warrant issued by Congolese judicial authorities. Kinshasa thanked Tanzania for what it described as effective and diligent cooperation.
The case did not begin in August. In October and November 2025, the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation sent three international letters rogatory to Belgian judicial authorities concerning criminal files opened at the Kinshasa/Gombe prosecutor ’s office involving Dusauchoy and other people. The Reported Private-Jet Transfer
Congolese media subsequently reported that Dusauchoy was transferred to Kinshasa following her detention. Opinion Info reported that the aircraft carrying her landed at N’djili International Airport on August 31.

Who Is Denise Dusauchoy?
Dusauchoy is a Congolese journalist and influencer who became especially visible through social media, including TikTok.
She founded the political party Forces des Démocrates pour le Développement (FDD) in 2024. Contemporary reporting documented the launch of the FDD.
Her political trajectory later changed significantly. In July 2024, she publicly called for support for President Félix Tshisekedi and described insecurity in eastern DRC as an unjust war of aggression imposed by Rwanda, according to ACP reporting at the time.
More recent Congolese reporting has portrayed her as supportive of AFC/M23. On September 1, state news agency ACP described her as a pro-AFC/M23 social-media figure when reporting her arrest. Read the ACP report.
Other reports have connected her recent public activity to AFC/M23-controlled Goma. Claims about her movements elsewhere in the Great Lakes region, including Rwanda, require separate verification.
Her Previous Case in Kinshasa
Dusauchoy was already known to Congolese courts before the latest arrest.

On December 16, 2024, the Kinshasa-Ngaliema Peace Court sentenced her to three years in prison for offenses reported as false rumors, forgery and public insults involving opposition politician Jacky Ndala and Congolese intelligence services. Radio Okapi reported the December 2024 judgment.

That earlier conviction should be distinguished from the current criminal files under investigation cited by the Justice Ministry in connection with her Tanzania arrest.
Why Was This Operation Extraordinary?
Several elements made the operation notable.
First, the warrant was enforced outside Congolese territory with the cooperation of another government.
Second, the official statement shows that Congolese prosecutors had been pursuing international judicial channels since at least late 2025.
Third, the transfer unfolded quickly after the August 30 arrest, with Dusauchoy reported in Kinshasa by August 31.

Finally, media reports indicate that a private aircraft was used, although the Justice Ministry has not publicly confirmed who chartered or paid for it.
Kinshasa Shows Its Cross-Border Law-Enforcement Reach
For Congolese authorities, the clearest official message is about international judicial cooperation.
The Justice Ministry praised Tanzania’s assistance and said the DRC intends to strengthen cooperation with international partners in its fight against impunity and efforts to make justice effective.
The arrest demonstrates that a warrant issued by Congolese authorities can, when another state cooperates through the relevant legal mechanisms, result in an arrest outside the DRC.
The next stage, however, is judicial.
The government has not publicly detailed all charges connected to the current files in its arrest announcement. It has explicitly stated that Dusauchoy's arrest should not be interpreted as proof of guilt.
Her legal responsibility for any pending accusations will therefore have to be determined through the judicial process.
