Nigerian actress and newly elected Secretary of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter, Imade Osawaru, has stated that being in Nollywood makes romantic relationships more challenging.

In an interview, Osawaru explained that the demands of the entertainment industry — including long working hours, travel schedules and public scrutiny — can place pressure on personal relationships.

“It definitely makes it more challenging,” she said, noting that understanding and trust remain essential for sustaining love in the industry.

Focus on Leadership

Osawaru described her election as AGN Lagos Secretary as both an honour and a responsibility. She said the role goes beyond holding a title and requires actively representing the interests of actors.

Among her priorities for the first 100 days are improving communication between guild leadership and members, reviewing policies to make them more actor-friendly, and introducing more training and mentorship opportunities.

She added that stronger advocacy for fair contracts and improved mental health support for actors would be key areas of focus during her tenure.

Addressing Industry Challenges

According to Osawaru, access to fair contracts and proper advocacy remains one of the biggest challenges facing actors in Lagos. She stressed the need for better protection and structured support systems within the industry.

On navigating industry politics, she said her decisions would be guided by fairness, honesty and accountability rather than personal interests.

Career and Personal Life

Osawaru identified the movie The Gateman as a turning point in her career, saying it brought her increased visibility and professional opportunities.

She also expressed interest in taking on more complex roles, revealing she is no longer interested in repetitive, overly seductive characters often offered to her.

On her relationship status, Osawaru said she is currently single but open to love. She added that she would consider dating or marrying someone in the entertainment industry if there is mutual respect and shared values.

Describing herself in three words, she said: “Passionate, resilient, grounded.”
