The Deputy Chief of Staff of the FARDC in charge of operations and intelligence, Lieutenant General Ychaligonza Nduru Jacques, has arrived in Kisangani for an inspection and evaluation mission within the 3rd Defense Zone, according to 7sur7.

The visit, which began on Monday, May 4, 2026, is aimed at reviewing how previous instructions issued to commanders in the area have been implemented. Military officials say the mission follows an earlier inspection carried out at the beginning of April.

According to Major Nestor Mavudisa, spokesperson for the 3rd Defense Zone, the assessment will help establish a full picture of the operational situation before a report is sent to the FARDC hierarchy and the Supreme Commander.

The inspection comes as Congo’s army continues to face wider security pressures. Reuters recently reported that FARDC had announced a disarmament push against the FDLR, with Ychaligonza linked to preparations in Kisangani.

The visit also fits into a broader pattern of military oversight in Kisangani. Radio Okapi reported in 2024 that FARDC officers in the 3rd Defense Zone had previously been urged to strengthen discipline, loyalty and patriotism.

Upon arrival at Bangoka International Airport, Lieutenant General Ychaligonza was received by Brigadier General Modeste Mpunga Mwamba and senior officers from the Kisangani garrison.
