BEIJING — September 8, 2026 — The Democratic Republic of the Congo has sent a mining delegation led by Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba to China ahead of one of the country's largest international mining gatherings.
The Congolese delegation reportedly arrived in Beijing on September 8 before travelling to the China Mining Conference and Exhibition, scheduled for September 10–12 at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention and Exhibition Center.
The mission will give the DRC an opportunity to present its mineral potential, promote investment projects and pursue partnerships with mining companies, equipment manufacturers, financiers and technical-service providers attending the conference.
DRC receives dedicated country investment session
The official conference notice confirms that the DRC will be among a small group of countries receiving dedicated national investment-promotion sessions during the event.
The programme also includes country sessions for Botswana, Brazil, Ghana, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, as well as broader regional presentations covering Africa, Latin America, Central and West Asia, the Caribbean and the South Pacific.
This creates a focused platform for Congolese officials to speak directly to companies and investors already looking for mining licences, mineral supplies, project equity, technical contracts and new market opportunities.
Organizers say government representatives and exhibitors from nearly 50 countries are expected to participate. The conference will feature one main forum, six high-level forums and 20 specialist sessions covering geological exploration, mineral processing, mining equipment, green development, innovation, markets and public policy.

More than 650 exhibitors will occupy approximately 65,000 square metres of exhibition space. The event will also present more than 200 mining projects and nearly 30 open project roadshows representing over 20 countries and regions.
A dedicated mining-rights marketplace will remain open throughout the three-day conference. Organizers say it will support transactions involving mineral rights, mineral products, company shares and technical services through direct negotiations, targeted matchmaking and other deal structures.
The venue will also provide designated areas for private discussions and agreement signings.
These features make the conference especially relevant to the DRC, which is seeking capital, geological technology, processing capacity and industrial partnerships capable of producing greater value from its copper, cobalt, lithium, coltan, gold and other mineral resources.

Congo promotes investment with a local-value message
Congolese reporting on the mission says the delegation intends to promote the country's mining potential while encouraging partnerships that contribute more directly to domestic development.
That message reflects Kinshasa's wider effort to move beyond the export of unprocessed minerals by attracting investment in local transformation, infrastructure, skills development and supply chains based inside the DRC.
China already occupies an important place in the Congolese mining sector. The Tianjin conference therefore offers the government a chance to reinforce existing commercial relationships while presenting new projects and expectations to Chinese and international investors.
For Congolese mining companies, licence holders and project developers, the delegation's presence could create openings for investor introductions, equipment partnerships, exploration services and project financing. Local contractors and suppliers will also be watching to see whether any future agreements contain commitments on Congolese employment, procurement and processing.
