BAMAKO, MALI — The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has expressed its intention to deepen military cooperation with Burkina Faso, Niger, and Russia, as part of a broader effort to establish an African-led security framework.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita announced on Wednesday, November 12, “BAMZEX 25,” during the first Defense and Security Exhibition, “BAMZEX 25,” held in Bamako, Mali.

Strengthening Partnerships for Security

On the sidelines of the event, Minister Kabombo met with:

  • His counterpart from Burkina Faso,

  • The Secretary General of Defense of Niger, and

  • The Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.

The discussions focused on training, intelligence exchange, and joint defense initiatives, aiming to strengthen Congo’s armed forces (FARDC) and share African expertise in modern defense practices.

Aligned With President Tshisekedi’s Vision

Kabombo underlined that the move follows President Félix Tshisekedi’s vision of “a united Africa, in control of its security and an actor in its own solutions.”

“Africa has the human, technical, and moral resources necessary to ensure its own security,” the minister said.

This approach reflects Kinshasa’s growing role in continental security diplomacy, emphasizing African cooperation over dependency on foreign interventions.

Boosting Congo’s Defense Industry

Minister Kabombo also said the DRC intends to use its participation in BAMZEX 25 to develop and modernize the Congolese defense industry, positioning it within the African market for defense technologies and logistics.

The Bamako fair showcases African-made military innovations and promotes partnerships that align with both African realities and international standards.

Toward an Independent African Defense

By strengthening ties with key African and international partners, the DRC aims to reinforce regional stability while promoting an independent and cooperative African security architecture — one where Africa’s nations defend Africa’s interests.
