Before the Democratic Republic of Congo had even kicked a ball at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Leopards had already captured global attention.

As the Congolese national team arrived in Houston, Texas, photos of the players dressed in elegant black suits adorned with leopard-print details spread rapidly across social media. Fashion pages, sports outlets, and fans around the world praised the look, turning it into one of the most talked-about arrivals of the tournament.

The outfit, known as Dark Moniama, was designed by Congolese creative director Alvin Junior Mak, founder of the luxury fashion house JMAKXPARIS. But according to its designer, the suit was never intended to be just another football travel outfit.

It was designed to tell a story.

A Tribute to the Leopards of 1974

At the heart of the Dark Moniama concept is a tribute to the legendary Congolese team that represented the country at the 1974 FIFA World Cup.

That historic squad became the first team from sub-Saharan Africa to compete at the tournament, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations of Congolese footballers.

For Alvin Junior Mak, the challenge was to create a modern silhouette that honored those pioneers while representing today's generation of Leopards.

The result was a contemporary suit rooted in history, culture, and ambition.
