GITEGA, Burundi — August 18, 2026 — Burundi is reportedly moving closer to contributing troops to a planned international stabilization force for Gaza, with senior Burundian military officials said to have joined advanced discussions over the proposed mission.
According to reporting citing Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11, military representatives from Burundi and Uganda have been involved in talks at the U.S.-led Civil-Military Coordination Center in Kiryat Gat, Israel. Both countries reportedly gave preliminary approval to contribute hundreds of soldiers.
Uganda has already taken a formal step, with its parliament approving a possible troop deployment earlier this month.
Burundi, however, has not publicly confirmed a final deployment, troop numbers or timetable. The development remains ongoing, with an official announcement from Gitega still awaited.
