Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy was briefly detained by customs officials at a Moroccan airport due to concerns over jewellery, according to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.

Motsepe disclosed the incident during a recent press conference, explaining that the singer encountered difficulties upon arrival in Morocco while en route to headline the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Fan Zone concert in Rabat.

According to the CAF President, airport customs officers stopped Burna Boy after noticing his gold jewellery. Motsepe said he was contacted to intervene, and the matter was resolved without further complications.

“I was called that I need to intervene because Burna Boy was stopped at the airport after customs officers noticed his heavy and beautiful gold jewellery. I intervened, and it was resolved,” Motsepe stated.

Despite the delay, Burna Boy went on to headline the AFCON Fan Zone concert in Rabat on January 16. The event also featured performances by Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy and Moroccan artists Stormy and Jaylann.
