The treason investigation follows a 14 August security operation at a property linked to Mundubile. Authorities said weapons and military equipment were recovered and several people were detained. Mundubile denied planning an insurgency and disputed the authorities’ account. Former cabinet minister Mutotwe Kafwaya was killed during the operation; the circumstances remain contested.
Amnesty International called for an independent investigation into Kafwaya’s death and said detainees must have access to lawyers, relatives and medical care. It also stressed that allegations concerning weapons or an insurrection must be investigated transparently and tested through fair proceedings.
