Afrobeats star Ayra Starr says her New York move has brought loneliness and cold, reflecting on regret and identity in a personal post.

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has shared details about her experience living in New York, weeks after relocating from Lagos as part of a management arrangement with Roc Nation.

In a recent Substack post titled “I’m not scared I promise,” the singer described feelings of loneliness and discomfort with the city’s cold weather. She referred to her apartment as “almost empty” and likened New York to “a walk-in freezer.”

Starr also acknowledged moments of doubt about her decision to move, noting that the harsh winter has affected her motivation. In the post, she reflected on how the cold and isolation have contrasted sharply with life in Nigeria.

The “Rush” singer said she would otherwise have been spending the festive season in Lagos but is instead adjusting to life in New York after what she described as a bold and rebellious decision.

She added that she is currently in what she called her “nobody gets me era,” emphasizing that she is less focused on proving herself to others as she navigates this new phase of her career and personal life.
