Oversized eyeglasses became a defining fashion statement as celebrities showcased bold looks at AMVCA 2026 in Lagos.

Oversized eyeglasses emerged as one of the standout fashion trends during the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), held on May 9 and 10, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos.

The event attracted actors, reality television stars, influencers and fashion enthusiasts, many of whom appeared in bold designer outfits paired with statement eyewear. Fashion observers noted that large-framed glasses became a recurring accessory on the red carpet, complementing avant-garde designs and luxury couture pieces.

The AMVCA red carpet featured a wide range of styles, including tailored suits, lace agbadas, feathered outfits and wearable art concepts. Oversized eyeglasses in square, round and tinted-frame designs were widely seen among attendees, reinforcing their growing popularity in celebrity fashion.

Reality TV personality Sultana Farida was named Best Dressed Female of the night, while menswear trends also attracted attention for their creative cuts and modern styling.

The event once again highlighted the influence of entertainment and celebrity culture on African fashion trends, with oversized eyewear standing out as one of the evening’s most visible style statements.
