ChatGPT Restored After Worldwide Outage
OpenAI’s popular AI tool, ChatGPT
OpenAI’s popular AI tool, ChatGPT, faced a global outage that lasted about three hours, with most issues reported by 74% of users, according to Downdetector.
The company confirmed the problem is now resolved. OpenAI stated, “API, ChatGPT, and Sora traffic has largely recovered. We are monitoring the situation to ensure full resolution.”
Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, shared the update on Twitter, saying, “We back,” and jokingly added,
“I was about to offer to start being the mechanical turk for ChatGPT.” Users responded, expressing frustration over the three-hour downtime.
The outage also affected Sora, OpenAI’s text-to-video AI tool, but services are mostly back to normal now.
This follows a smaller issue last month, which caused a 30-minute outage affecting over 19,000 users globally.
Interestingly, this happened just after Meta’s platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, experienced a significant outage. Meta has restored most of its services and apologized for the inconvenience.
Meta explained that its platforms’ shared technical setup can lead to simultaneous outages.
However, it clarified that plans to make the apps more interconnected have been put on hold due to regulatory concerns.
