In an interview, Antonio Cassano, the former Real Madrid forward became quite vocal about his colors in relation to Cristiano Ronaldo. Ricky, who seems to have a grudge against Christiano, made this explanation while discussing christaining the top ten list in such a way that does not include Ronaldo. This can be captured in one of the episodes of the BSMT Podcast.
Interestingly, as much as Cassano managed to put Ronaldo in number one’s place, so was the case for Ronaldo Nazário in the famous compilation, which also featured Lionel Messi, Pelé, Diego Maradona etc. Worse is that Cristiano Ronaldo went missing from the tenth position as chronicled by Cassano underscoring that ‘the caliber of a player is a different issue altogether’.
Having made public ‘the list’, he was sent a text and later followed up by a voicenote from a Spanish number which was later revealed to be from Cristiano Ronaldo. In these messages, Ronaldo quoted his career and his attitude and warned him to be careful with such words.
In response to Ronaldo’s voice note, Cassano offered nothing but a sheer rebuke:
‘Listen to me, Cristiano, I respect you, but to be honest, it’s not your fault that I did not like you as a player. Where is the problem?’
This argument illustrates the continuing argument in the world of football with regards to the rating of players as well as what makes a player great.
