Darlington Okoye, a.k.a. Speed Darlington, was granted bail and released from police custody as has been reported by civil rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju on his X social media page. Okoye was arrested last Friday in Lagos and because of informations provided to police by fellow artist Burna Boy, he was taken to Abuja.

The petition filed by Burna Boy arose from a leaked video involving Speed Darlington who raised questions about Burna Boy receiving a Grammy Award for his album ‘Twice As Tall’ alongside a critique of American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who is alleged to be implicated in sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

Deji Adeyanju has also thanked all those who rallied to seek for the release of Okoye while commending the IRT police department where he works for professionalism. He especially appreciated, activists, Yele Sowore and senior lawyer, Stanalieke and all the active Nigerians’ who demanded the release of the musician.

“Use this opportunity to say thank you to #YeleSowore, reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, this time all Nigerians who were shouting for Speed Darlington must be appreciated. Prof. Sanusi and his entire team including which is IRT cannot go unappreciated today,”

said Adeyanju in his statement.
