Legendary Singer Onyeka Onwenu to Be Laid to Rest in Lagos Today

Onyeka Onwenu, the iconic Nigerian singer and actress, will be laid to rest today, Friday, August 30, 2024, in Lagos State. The beloved music legend passed away on July 30, 2024, after collapsing at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals. She was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, at the age of 72.


Known affectionately as "The Elegant Stallion," Onyeka Onwenu will be buried following a funeral service at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju. The family has announced that the burial will take place at a private vault in Ikoyi later in the day.


The funeral proceedings will begin with a Service of Songs from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the burial ceremony from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.


Throughout her illustrious career, Onyeka Onwenu was not only celebrated as a renowned musician but also made her mark as an actress in numerous Nollywood films. Her influence extended beyond the entertainment industry, as she also ventured into politics, contesting twice for the position of Local Council Chairman of Ideato North Local Government Area in Imo State under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


The nation mourns the loss of this cultural icon, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
