Rwanda National Police recently confirmed the arrest of Miss Rwanda 2022, Muheto Nshuti Divine, on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the legal limit, driving without a valid license, causing property damage, and attempting to flee the scene after an accident.
In a statement released on October 29, 2024, the police reported that Muheto’s file had been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office. The statement read, “Miss Divine Muheto was arrested for driving under the influence above the legal limit, without a valid driver’s license, causing property damage, and attempting to flee after the accident.” Police also indicated that she had previous similar offenses, noting an accident in September of the previous year, which left her with minor injuries and her vehicle significantly damaged.
Court Appearance for Bail Hearing
On the morning of October 31, 2024, Miss Nshuti Muheto Divine and Jean Bosco Sengabo, known as 'Fatakumavuta,' appeared before the Kicukiro Primary Court for their bail hearing, arriving at the court together.
Muheto was arrested by the Rwanda National Police's Road Safety Department between October 18 and 20, 2024, following an accident in Kicukiro District. She reportedly attempted to flee the scene after the accident while under the influence of alcohol. Given that this was not her first offense, the police forwarded her file to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Fatakumavuta's Charges: Defamation and Cyber Harassment
Jean Bosco Sengabo, also known as 'Fatakumavuta,' was detained on October 18, 2024, by the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) on suspicion of defamation and harassment using online platforms. Initial investigations found indications of drug use, defamation, and harassment online. Authorities conducted tests that confirmed a high concentration of cannabis in his system, with a reading of 298, significantly above the standard range of 0-20.
The court will proceed with the bail hearing as it considers the charges against both individuals.
