Dar es Salaam – President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced that Vice President Dr Philip Mpango has officially asked to resign from his position.


Speaking at a special general meeting in Dodoma on January 19, 2025, President Samia confirmed that Dr Mpango wants to leave his role due to personal reasons. He stated that he is now 68 years old and wishes to focus on his health and well-being.


President Samia explained that Dr Mpango gave her his resignation letter last week. At first, she was hesitant to accept it, but after discussing the matter with the Central Committee, they decided to approve his request.


Even though his resignation has been accepted, Dr Mpango will continue serving as Vice President until the General Election later this year.
