  • DRC and Tanzania Open New Chapter in Strategic Partnership

DRC and Tanzania agreed to deepen cooperation on critical minerals, trade, energy, transport and security during Tshisekedi’s visit to Zanzibar. ZANZIBAR, Tanzania — August 18, 2026 — The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania have agreed to deepen cooperation across critical minerals, transport infrastructure, energy, agriculture, digital connectivity, trade and regional security, following President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo’s official visit to Tanzania on August 17–18. President Tshisekedi and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan held bilateral talks at State House in Zanzibar on Tuesday, where the two leaders agreed on measures aimed at strengthening economic integration and opening new opportunities for businesses and communities in both countries. DRC and Tanzania Agree on Strategic Minerals Partnership One of the most significant outcomes was an agreement to establish a Strategic Partnership on Minerals. The partnership will cover critical minerals, geological data, mineral processing, value addition and responsible investment. The two governments instructed their authorities to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding defining priority actions. Tanzania also welcomed the DRC’s interest in joining the African Minerals and Geosciences Centre (AMGC) in Dar es Salaam. The initiative could deepen cooperation between two countries occupying increasingly important positions in Africa’s critical-minerals and regional logistics landscape. Central Corridor, Kigoma and Kalemie Connectivity The two presidents reaffirmed their commitment to improving the Central Corridor, including connections through the ports of Dar es Salaam, Kigoma and Kalemie. Cooperation will cover lake transport, roads and the progressive interconnection of railway networks, subject to technical and financial studies. This could strengthen the DRC’s access to Tanzania’s transport infrastructure and provide additional routes linking Congolese production centres with international markets. The governments also welcomed progress toward establishing a cross-border fibre-optic connection between Kigoma and Kalemie, calling for the remaining technical, regulatory and security arrangements to be completed. Energy Cooperation Could Expand Kinshasa and Dodoma will also assess cooperation in oil and gas exploration, transportation, storage and refining, alongside electricity interconnection and renewable energy. The two countries agreed to explore potential synergies with regional infrastructure, including EACOP and TAZAMA, where technically and economically viable. Agriculture, Trade and Private Investment The partnership will extend to agricultural mechanisation, irrigation, fisheries, aquaculture, livestock improvement, agro-processing, storage, agricultural finance and food security. ADVERTISEMENT The presidents also agreed to reinvigorate the Joint Permanent Commission, which will serve as the central mechanism for monitoring bilateral cooperation. Its economic and trade component is expected to meet annually at ministerial level to address non-tariff barriers, customs and transit constraints and encourage greater private-sector participation. Both governments also committed to making greater use of the African Continental Free Trade Area, SADC Free Trade Area and East African Community Common Market. Tanzania Backs DRC Sovereignty and Withdrawal of Foreign Forces Peace and security in eastern Congo featured prominently in the talks. The joint communiqué reaffirmed support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity of the DRC and called for implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including the cessation of hostilities and withdrawal of foreign forces from Congolese territory. The leaders simultaneously supported efforts to neutralise armed groups, including the FDLR , through disarmament, demobilisation, repatriation or reintegration alongside accountability and transitional justice. • The Rwandan government continues its demonization of Victoire Ingabire | Xtrafrica Media Group https://static.wixstatic.com/media/436149_b091a6c9ab434ee28d1f450ea2a4b80a~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_1920,h_1080,al_c,q_90/ngabirew.jpg

The Rwandan government continues its demonization of Victoire Ingabire Mar 6, 2025 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Dr. Jean-Damascène Bizimana, the Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, reiterated these claims to Ingabire Victoire Victoire Ingabire, a key figure in the opposition, continues to face a smear campaign by the Rwandan government, accused of connections with the FDLR and promoting genocidal ideology. Dr. Jean-Damascène Bizimana, the Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, reiterated these claims during a parliamentary session on March 5, 2025. These accusations highlight President Paul Kagame's regime's strategy to suppress dissent under the guise of fighting ethnic division. After returning from exile in the Netherlands in 2010, Ingabire announced her intention to run for the presidential elections, an act that immediately led to repression by the regime. Upon her arrival, her visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial and her questions about the fate of Hutu victims of violence were construed as denial of the Tutsi genocide. This manipulation of history by the Rwandan government justified her arrest and conviction on spurious charges of "denialism" and "conspiring against the state." The Kigali regime's accusations against Ingabire are not new. In 2010, her trial featured controversial testimony from Tharcisse Nditurende, a former FDLR officer, who allegedly claimed she had ties with the group. However, it is well known that opposition trials in Rwanda are orchestrated by the state, with testimony obtained under pressure. In 2013, Ingabire was sentenced to 15 years in prison, a verdict aimed solely at silencing one of the few political voices capable of challenging Kagame's power. Released by a presidential pardon in 2018, the Rwandan government now attempts to rewrite this history, claiming she never sought forgiveness and remains dangerous. Since her release, Ingabire has consistently called for inclusive national dialogue, advocating for a more open political climate, which poses a direct threat to Kigali's authoritarian regime. Minister Jean-Damascène Bizimana, adhering to government rhetoric, attempted to link Ingabire to armed movements, suggesting a continuity between her past engagements and current activities. By stating there is "no difference between Ingabire of DALFA and Ingabire of the FDLR or RDR," he continues a strategy of criminalizing the opposition, equating any criticism of the government to an attempt to destabilize the country. The Kagame regime, which portrays itself as a model of development and stability, relentlessly uses the genocide narrative to justify political repression. In 2019, it accused Ingabire of organizing a secret meeting in Kirehe district, where she allegedly recruited members based on ethnic lines. This absurd claim is part of a defamation campaign where any political adversary is depicted as a dangerous extremist. Government spokesperson Yolande Makolo attacked Ingabire again in March 2024, stating she was neither a political opponent nor a human rights activist but an incorrigible criminal. This statement perfectly illustrates the regime's propaganda, where any critique is equated to a conspiracy against the state. Victoire Ingabire's case demonstrates how the Rwandan government manipulates justice to crush the opposition. By keeping her under surveillance and periodically renewing accusations against her, Kigali seeks to block any real political debate. Meanwhile, Paul Kagame, backed by costly media campaigns and polished communication, attempts to present himself as a strong, modernizing leader. However, behind this facade lies a regime where political repression is systematic, fear is a governance tool, and the political opposition is hunted, arrested, or forced into exile. The persecution of Victoire Ingabire illustrates a dictatorship fearful of any political alternative and, after nearly 30 years in power, shows no intention of opening the democratic space. Approximate distance from Kinshasa: 130–135 km. Main attraction: Zongo Falls, approximately 65–67 m high, depending on the source. Landscape: Forest, rocks, waterfalls, lawns and bungalow accommodation areas. Natural Heritage Linked to Energy Zongo's modern history is also connected to hydroelectric development on the Inkisi River. A technical document on the power station states that construction began on March 10, 1951, and that the first generating unit entered service on October 23, 1955. Two additional units were subsequently commissioned in June 1965. The hydroelectric development lies upstream of the tourist waterfall, while the power station is described as being approximately 500 meters downstream. This history explains the unusual proximity of a historic energy facility to a landscape that has become a nature destination. ADVERTISEMENT 2. History and Exploring the Landscape The Inkisi River flows through a landscape of rocks and dense vegetation before forming Zongo Falls. A History Connected to the Inkisi Before becoming a weekend destination familiar to visitors from Kinshasa, Zongo was primarily an area shaped by the river, the terrain and local activities. The construction of the hydroelectric power station in the mid-20th century gave the area a lasting industrial role. The historical technical file consulted places the development in the village of Celo, Gombe-Matadi sector, Mbanza-Ngungu territory, on the Inkisi River. The waterfalls are the scenic centerpiece of the site: water plunges over a series of rocks before continuing its course. Travel guides describe a waterfall approximately 65–67 meters high, surrounded by lush vegetation. What to See and Photograph The panoramic view of the falls and the spray created by the force of the water. The rock formations and small streams around the waterfall. The forest vegetation and walking areas. The wooden bungalows and green spaces at the accommodation site. The contrast between tropical nature and hydroelectric heritage. Photography tip: Light changes quickly between open areas and the forest. Bring protection for your equipment against moisture and water spray. 3. Staying on Site: Accommodation and Experience Chalet-style bungalows stand in a green setting close to the natural site. Staying Overnight in Zongo Available tourism information mentions rustic bungalows and tent accommodation. A local establishment listed as Seli Safari Zongo also offers accommodation in a natural setting near the waterfalls. Services, prices and availability may change, so booking and confirming the conditions before departure is recommended. ADVERTISEMENT A Day Trip or a Weekend? Day trip: Leave Kinshasa early, travel toward Kongo Central, explore the falls, have lunch or take a break on site, then return before nightfall if road conditions allow. Weekend: Arrive in the afternoon, settle in, explore the surroundings, stay overnight, visit the waterfalls the following morning and return in the afternoon. The bungalows can offer a different atmosphere at night, with illuminated façades and surrounding vegetation. 4. Practical Guide from Kinshasa Suggested Route From Kinshasa, the journey follows the road toward Kongo Central and then the access roads into the Zongo area. Tourism sources place the site approximately 130–135 km from the capital. A recent traveler-oriented source gives a driving time of up to three to four hours, including approximately 50 km of unpaved road; other operators quote longer journey times. The condition of the track, the weather and stops can significantly affect travel time. For a first visit, choose a vehicle suited to difficult roads, ideally with a driver or local assistance. Avoid planning a late return: night driving and rural roads present additional challenges. Suggested Two-Day Program Day 1 – Kinshasa → Zongo: Morning departure, breaks along the way, arrival and check-in; explore the surroundings during daylight. End of the day: Rest, eat and enjoy the landscape; do not venture alone into natural areas after dark. Day 2 – Waterfalls: Guided visit, photography and a walk depending on local conditions; lunch followed by departure for Kinshasa. What to Bring Closed shoes with good grip and a lightweight rain jacket. Water, snacks, insect repellent, sunscreen and a small first-aid kit. A charged phone and a power bank; cash in small denominations, as electronic payments may be limited. A waterproof bag or protective pouch for your phone and camera. 5. Guide for International Travelers Before Departure Entry requirements for the DRC depend on nationality. International travelers should check the requirements applicable to their passport with the Congolese authorities and their diplomatic mission. For French nationals, France Diplomatie specifies, among other requirements, a visa, a passport valid for at least six months from entry and a vaccination certificate confirming yellow fever vaccination. Bring mosquito protection and stay adequately hydrated. Do not drink untreated water; choose safe, packaged drinking water. Around waterfalls, respect barriers, paths and local instructions: rocks may be slippery and currents dangerous. Safety French travel advice updated in September 2026 advises against tourist travel throughout Congolese territory and notes incursions in certain areas of Kongo Central. This is not a site-specific assessment of Zongo: before each departure, travelers should consult the latest official advisories and check local conditions with a reliable operator. General recommendations to reduce risks include avoiding travel alone or at night, using experienced local drivers, keeping valuables discreet, avoiding gatherings and storing documents securely. Respect for Local Communities Ask permission before photographing people, homes or sensitive facilities. Respect riverside communities, any sacred spaces, vegetation and accommodation rules. Do not leave litter along the riverbanks or in the forest. 6. Visitor's Notebook: The Essentials Zongo's forest and waterfalls offer a nature experience Quick Reference Item Details Destination Zongo Falls, Kongo Central, DRC Waterway Inkisi River Distance Approximately 130–135 km from Kinshasa Waterfall height Approximately 65–67 m, depending on the source Administrative location Zongo Matanda / Gombe-Matadi sector, Mbanza-Ngungu territory Recommended duration One day for the essentials; two days for a more comfortable stay Transport Vehicle suited to rural roads; local assistance recommended Do not forget Water, non-slip shoes, insect repellent, rain protection, cash and a power bank Conclusion Zongo brings together three elements that make the journey distinctive: the force of the Inkisi River, the spectacle of the waterfalls and a long hydroelectric history. For international visitors, a successful stay depends above all on thorough preparation: a confirmed itinerary, reliable transport, booked accommodation, checked entry requirements and local assistance. • Hadzabe Family Structure: Kinship and Leadership

Explore Hadzabe family structure, kinship, childcare, residence, and leadership among Tanzania’s Hadza people. The Hadzabe , also known as the Hadza, are one of Tanzania’s best-known hunter-gatherer peoples. They live around Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania, where family life is shaped by movement, cooperation, food sharing, and a strong value of personal freedom. But Hadzabe family structure does not fit neatly into common outside categories. It is not a chief-led society. It is not built around rigid clans. It is not simply a Western-style nuclear family either. The strongest research points to something more flexible: a society where kin matter deeply, but where no one person easily controls the household, the camp, or the lives of others. THE HADZABE The Hadzabe live in northern Tanzania , especially around the Lake Eyasi region. Academic and fieldsite sources describe them as hunter-gatherers whose social life is closely connected to mobility, foraging, and camp life. Nicholas Blurton Jones’s Demography and Evolutionary Ecology of Hadza Hunter-Gatherers describes the Hadza as one of the “few remaining hunter-gatherer populations” (Blurton Jones, 2016). The University of Sheffield Hadza fieldsite also places them around Lake Eyasi and describes their social organization as flexible and egalitarian. This flexibility is key to understanding Hadzabe family life. People live in camps, but camp membership can shift. Families may move. Married couples may live near different relatives at different stages. Older women may move to help daughters or grandchildren. Social life is connected, but not fixed. Kinship Without Rigid Clans Hadzabe kinship is best described as bilateral. This means people recognize kin through both the mother’s side and the father’s side. The University of Sheffield fieldsite describes Hadzabe kinship as based on “bilateral descent,” and notes that the Hadza do not organize social life through formal clans in the way many other African societies do. This matters because it keeps kinship broad and flexible. A Hadzabe person may have strong ties to parents, siblings, grandparents, children, in-laws, and campmates. But these ties do not appear to create rigid political blocks or clan hierarchies. Family connection is important, yet it does not automatically produce chiefs, inherited offices, or fixed authority over others. That makes Hadzabe kinship different from societies where land, livestock, inheritance, or marriage rules are controlled by senior men or lineage elders. The Household Is Not Ruled by a “Head” One of the clearest findings comes from James Woodburn’s classic article “ Egalitarian Societies ”. Woodburn argues that Hadza society is part of an “immediate-return” hunter-gatherer pattern, where people usually consume food soon after acquiring it and do not build long-term control through stored wealth, This has a major effect on family authority. A Hadza hunter walks through the bush with a traditional bow and arrows, Woodburn writes that among the Hadza, “there are no household heads” in the authoritarian sense (Woodburn, 1982, p. 439). He does not mean that parents are absent or that families are chaotic. He means that household life is not built around one person who controls food, property, labor, or obedience. ADVERTISEMENT In many farming or pastoral societies, a household head may control land, livestock, stored grain, or marriage arrangements. Among the Hadzabe, the situation is different. People have more direct access to food and resources. Children and young adults are not as dependent on elders for access to property or survival. This helps explain why authority remains limited. A father, husband, or elder may be respected, but respect is not the same as command. Children Grow Up in a Wider Social World Hadzabe children are not raised only by isolated mothers and fathers. They grow up in camps, surrounded by siblings, grandparents, other children, relatives, and non-relatives. Anthropologists call care from someone other than the mother “allomaternal care.” Alyssa Crittenden and Frank Marlowe studied this directly in “Allomaternal Care among the Hadza of Tanzania”. Their work shows that Hadza childcare involves a wider network than the mother alone. This does not erase the importance of mothers. Mothers remain central, especially for infants and young children. But the Hadzabe family system is broader than a mother-father-child unit. Rebecca Sear and Ruth Mace’s review, “ Who Keeps Children Alive ?”, helps explain why this matters. Across many populations, they found that kin beyond the mother often affect child survival. They also note that which relatives help most depends on local conditions. For the Hadzabe, that local condition includes mobility, flexible residence, food sharing, and camp-based life. Grandmothers as Practical Helpers Grandmothers are especially important in the Hadzabe family structure. In “Hadza Grandmothers as Helpers: Residence Data,” Nicholas Blurton Jones, Kristen Hawkes, and James O’Connell show that Hadza camp life is highly mobile. They write that “camp compositions change incessantly,” meaning an older woman may live near one daughter at one time, another daughter later, or other kin depending on need. Their residence data show a strong pattern: older Hadza women were more often found in camp with adult daughters than adult sons. They were also more often with daughters who had young children, especially children still nursing. The authors summarize the pattern clearly: “older women distribute their help” where it is likely to matter (Blurton Jones, Hawkes & O’Connell, p. 174). In the same summary, they contrast older men: “Older men do not.” This does not mean older Hadza men never help. It means the residence pattern of older women fits the helper role more strongly. Grandmothers appear to position themselves where daughters and grandchildren may need them most. That is an important insight. Hadzabe kinship is not just a list of relatives. It is practical. It affects who lives near whom, who helps with children, and how families manage daily life. Fathers and Husbands Matter, But Not Always in the Same Way It would be too simple to say Hadzabe fathers are unimportant. It would also be too simple to describe them as the sole providers. ADVERTISEMENT The research points to a more careful conclusion: fathers, husbands, grandmothers, siblings, and other kin may all matter, but their roles vary. Sear and Mace write that paternal investment is “dependent on ecological conditions” (Sear & Mace, 2008, p. 10). In other words, the role of fathers is not the same everywhere. In some societies, fathers directly provision children. In others, food is shared widely , and children depend on broader networks. Among the Hadzabe, men hunt and may provide important resources at certain times. But large food items, especially meat, can circulate beyond the nuclear family. This means a child’s support network cannot be understood only by asking what the biological father brings home. Marriage still matters. Husbands may influence residence, support, and household life. But Hadzabe family structure is not built on a strict male breadwinner model. Marriage and Residence Are Flexible Postmarital residence means where a couple lives after marriage. Among the Hadzabe, this is not governed by one rigid rule. The University of Sheffield fieldsite notes a “slight bias to living with the wife’s kin.” Brian Wood and Frank Marlowe’s peer-reviewed study, “ Dynamics of Postmarital Residence among the Hadza”, also examines Hadza residence through a kin investment model. The key point is flexibility. A young couple may spend time near the wife’s family, especially when help from her kin is valuable. Later, they may live near the husband’s kin, move elsewhere, or shift depending on children, conflict, food access, and social preference. This makes Hadzabe family structure dynamic. Residence is not only about tradition. It is also about practical support. Leadership Without Chiefs One of the most common mistakes is to imagine Hadzabe society as chief-led. Hadza hunters gather with traditional bows and arrows, reflecting a society where leadership is based on cooperation and consensus rather than formal chiefs or rulers. Woodburn’s work strongly challenges that. He writes that in these egalitarian societies, people may have “no leaders at all” or leaders who are heavily constrained (Woodburn, 1982, p. 444). For the Hadza specifically, he explains that a camp may be known by the name of a well-known man living there, but that does not mean the man is a chief or formal representative. A named camp is not the same as a ruled camp. Decisions such as moving camp are not handed down by a central authority. People discuss, observe, choose, delay, join, or separate. Some older people may be influential. Skilled hunters, respected elders, or socially experienced adults may be listened to. But influence is not command. This is why Woodburn’s phrase “individuals have no real authority over each other” is so important (Woodburn, 1982, p. 431). Hadzabe leadership is better understood as informal influence inside an egalitarian system. Why This Family System Works The Hadzabe family system fits their way of life. In a mobile hunter-gatherer society, flexibility is valuable. Families need to respond to food availability, childcare needs, marriage changes, illness, conflict, and seasonal movement. A rigid household or clan structure would limit that flexibility. Trending Now Kenya, China Sign Deal for 80 Off-Grid Solar Systems . ADVERTISEMENT Because food and property are not heavily accumulated, one person has less ability to control others. Because kinship is bilateral, people can draw support from both sides. Because camps are flexible, grandmothers and other relatives can move where help is useful. Because leadership is constrained, people can separate when social tension becomes too much. This does not mean Hadzabe life is conflict-free. No society is. But the structure gives people room to move, choose, and renegotiate relationships. Common Misconceptions The Hadzabe Have Chiefs Woodburn’s research supports the opposite: leadership is absent or strongly limited. Hadzabe Families Are Just Nuclear Families This is misleading. Mothers, fathers, grandmothers, siblings, and wider camp members all shape childrearing. Hadzabe Kinship Is Matrilineal The better description is bilateral kinship, with flexible residence and some bias toward the wife’s kin. Men Rule the Household By Woodburn’s evidence. He states that among the Hadza, “there are no household heads” in the strong authoritarian sense. Hadzabe family structure is built on kinship, but not rigid kinship. It is shaped by family, but not ruled by household heads. It includes leadership, but not chiefs. The Hadzabe show a social world where people rely on relatives while protecting personal autonomy. Children are raised through wider networks. Grandmothers can be crucial helpers. Fathers and husbands matter, but not as isolated rulers or sole providers. Camps are flexible, and leadership is informal. To understand the Hadzabe family, we have to move beyond simple labels. Their system is not leaderless disorder. It is a flexible, egalitarian way of organizing kinship, care, and daily life. Reference Woodburn, James (1982). “ Egalitarian Societies .” Man , 17(3), 431–451. • Anthony Joshua is set to face Francis Ngannou in a highly anticipated match on March 8, 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Joshua, a former world heavyweight champion, is aiming to continue his unbeaten streak following his victory over Otto Wallin last December. Ngannou, a former UFC heavyweight champion and now competing in MMA for the Professional Fighters League, had his boxing debut last October against Tyson Fury. The event, dubbed 'Knockout Chaos,' will feature a 10-round non-title bout. The fight is scheduled on a Friday to avoid clashing with the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix happening the next day. This strategic scheduling is part of Saudi Arabia's larger ambition to become a prime destination for global sporting events. The bout will be available for viewing in the UK and Ireland on Sky Box Office, with a pay-per-view fee for Sky customers at £19.95 or €24.95 for those in the Irish Republic. Outside Britain and Ireland, the match can be watched on DAZN for a PPV fee of £19.99. The undercard lineup includes several notable fights, such as Zhilei Zhang vs Joseph Parker for the WBO interim heavyweight title and Rey Vargas vs Nick Ball for the WBC featherweight title, among others. Anthony Joshua is the favorite to win, but the match is expected to be highly competitive, given Ngannou's performance against Fury where he managed to knock Fury down in the third round despite eventually losing the match. This fight is more than just a sporting event; it represents the growing presence of big-fight boxing in Saudi Arabia, backed by significant investment and interest from local authorities. This match is part of a broader effort to enhance the region's appeal as a major venue for international sporting events. • Davido Opens a New Era With Sixth Album ‘ORIADÉ’

Davido releases his 13-track sixth album, ORIADÉ, featuring Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Mayorkun, Leon Thomas and more. Davido is stepping into a new chapter of his career with ORIADÉ, a tightly packed album shaped by African pride, global collaborations and reflections on his rise. According to [The Sun], the Nigerian Afrobeats star released the 13-track project on July 31, 2026, describing it as the beginning of another phase in his 15-year journey through music. The album brings together several voices from Africa and beyond. Leon Thomas, Black Sherif, Aya Nakamura, Mayorkun, FOLA, Llona, NO11, JAZZWRLD and GL_Ceejay all appear across the project. At 13 songs, ORIADÉ is Davido’s shortest studio album. His previous five albums each contained 17 tracks, making the new release a clear break from the format he had followed for years. Davido first announced the album’s release date on June 29. The reveal arrived through a social-media video showing him dressed in regal Yoruba clothing while a traditional Yoruba eulogy played in the background. “The kingdom expands. Chosen long before the throne,” he wrote alongside the announcement, introducing the royal imagery that surrounds the album’s title and presentation. ORIADÉ is Davido’s sixth studio LP and his seventh major project since he entered Nigeria’s mainstream music scene more than a decade ago. The rollout began with “I Know Who I Be,” featuring South African duo JAZZWRLD and GL_Ceejay. The song looks back at Davido’s career, the distance he has travelled and the milestones that have defined his public life. Its video takes the story back to the childhood home where his musical ambitions began. Longtime collaborators and members of his team also appear, connecting his early years with the global career that followed. Davido continued the rollout with “Gimme Dat Ting,” a collaboration with NO11 that blends Afrobeats and Amapiano. The track centres on confidence, ambition, success and enjoying the rewards of years spent building a career. KeNHA announces partial closure of Thika Superhighway at Juja Highpoint for footbridge construction Dec 6, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Thika highway Nairobi The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a partial closure of the Thika Superhighway from December 12 to December 17. This closure, at Juja Highpoint (Centurion), is to allow for the construction of a new footbridge. KeNHA has warned the public to expect some traffic delays during this period. “Nairobi-bound traffic will use a diversion behind Lexo petrol station before rejoining the Superhighway, while Thika-bound traffic will use a diversion behind Centurion hotel before rejoining the Superhighway,” the authority explained. Motorists have been urged to drive carefully near the construction area, follow the provided traffic management plan, and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on-site. In December 2022, then Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen directed that four footbridges be installed along the Thika Superhighway to improve pedestrian safety and reduce accidents. The planned footbridges are to be installed at Juja Highpoint stage near Centurion hotel, Kihunguro section, Juja Mona Park area, and Clay Works/Northlands. "Additional footbridges are planned for installation at different sections of Thika Superhighway, and engineering design has been done," Murkomen said at the time. He highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing road safety with multiple measures, including public awareness campaigns on safe crossing points and designated passenger drop-off zones. Murkomen also mentioned improvements such as better road markings, installation of road signs, and enhanced lighting near footbridges to boost security. "Fencing along the median of the superhighway has been done (at critical areas) and is constantly under maintenance and repair by the PBC (Performance Based Contracting) contractors to ensure pedestrians use designated crossing points," he added. • HESLB Allocations: 165,775 Students Receive First-Batch Funding

HESLB has allocated Sh535.7 billion to 165,775 new and continuing students for the 2026/27 academic year. Check your status via SIPA. Tanzania’s Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) announced on 10 October 2026 that it had allocated Sh535.7 billion in loans and grants to 165,775 students for the 2026/27 academic year. The first phase covers undergraduate, diploma and Samia Scholarship beneficiaries, including students already continuing their studies. For applicants waiting for a decision, the immediate step is to check their individual account. HESLB says application assessment and allocations are continuing, so absence from the first batch should not, by itself, be treated as a final rejection. How do I check my HESLB allocation? Check your Student’s Individual Permanent Account, known as SIPA, using HESLB’s official online services. The first allocation covers 165,775 new and continuing students. If your account has no allocation yet, keep checking: the board says assessment and allocation are continuing. Who received the first HESLB allocations? The official HESLB announcement gives the following beneficiary numbers: The headline number therefore covers several groups. It does not mean that 165,775 first-year students received loans, or that all beneficiaries received the same amount or type of support. Applicants should use their own account information when planning their education costs rather than another student’s allocation. How the first batch fits into the annual budget According to The Citizen’s report on the announcement , executive director Dr Bill Kiwia said the government had set aside Sh1.06 trillion for higher education loans and grants in 2026/27, targeting 292,463 students. The newspaper reported that the previous academic year’s budget was Sh916.7 billion, with 252,773 beneficiaries. The current first batch is therefore one stage of a wider programme, rather than the complete annual beneficiary list. For families, the useful distinction is between the overall budget, the first allocation and an individual award. None of those figures, on its own, tells a particular student how much support is available to them or when money will reach them. None of those figures, on its own, tells a particular student how much support is available to them or when money will reach them. How to check your allocation safely Start at the official HESLB website , which links to its online application services. Follow that official route to access your account and check the information available through SIPA. Use the account you created for your application. Read the status and any instructions carefully before deciding what action to take. If you need to ask for help, note the wording of the message and when you checked it; this makes an enquiry more specific than simply saying your loan is missing. ADVERTISEMENT Keep your login details private. A screenshot shared in a group chat can help you understand what another applicant sees, but it cannot establish your own allocation. Avoid entering your credentials through links sent by strangers or paying someone who claims they can change your result. The public online-service page did not expose a dashboard during this check, so this guide does not assume particular menu names or buttons inside a logged-in account. What if your SIPA account has no allocation? HESLB’s advice is to continue monitoring SIPA while processing continues. This is a reason to keep checking, rather than conclude that the first announcement settles every outstanding application. It is also not a guarantee that every pending applicant will receive funding. A student still awaiting an allocation should avoid making financial commitments on the assumption that an award is certain. The 10 October notice does not give a second-batch release date or an appeal deadline. Do not substitute a social-media timetable for a dated HESLB announcement. If a later notice introduces an appeal process, follow the requirements and dates in that notice. Trending Now Kenya, China Sign Deal for 80 Off-Grid Solar Systems .
