- Why Abba Yusuf’s APC Switch Is Shaking Kano Politics
Abba Yusuf’s defection from NNPP to APC is reshaping Kano’s alliances and 2027 calculations, drawing sharp reactions from opposition parties. Kano’s political equation is under fresh strain after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf moved from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), triggering immediate pushback from opposition parties and an angry response from his former platform. The development, which the APC has framed as a major gain ahead of 2027, is being interpreted by rivals as elite realignment that may not translate into votes as Reported by The PUNCH . A defection with unusually high political weight Yusuf is not just any governor in Nigeria’s shifting party landscape. Kano is one of the country’s most politically consequential states, and his victory under the NNPP banner in 2023 was closely tied to the strength of the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. That backdrop is why the NNPP described Yusuf’s exit as a betrayal of the Kano electorate and a direct blow to a political structure that mobilised voters for him. Beyond Yusuf’s personal move, the scale of accompanying defections is central to why the moment is being treated as disruptive. According to statements cited in the report, Yusuf is expected to formalise his APC registration alongside dozens of elected officials across state and federal legislatures and Kano’s local government leadership an organisational shift that can quickly change campaign machinery, patronage networks, and grassroots coordination. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Labour Party (LP) have argued that defections by political office holders should not be confused with voter alignment. Their public line is that electoral strength is ultimately determined at the ballot box, and that governors who switch platforms midstream do not automatically “move” the electorate with them. This argument mirrors a wider national debate about whether the growing trend of cross-party defections reflects genuine ideological convergence or strategic repositioning ahead of 2027. APC calls it validation; critics see a deeper 2027 test APC officials, including party spokesmen quoted in the report, describe Yusuf’s return as a “homecoming” and a sign the party’s agenda is gaining broader acceptance. Opponents counter that the ruling party’s expanding ranks raise questions about competitive balance, especially amid recurring public concerns about whether Nigeria is drifting toward one-party dominance an allegation the presidency and APC leaders have repeatedly denied in other public statements. For broader context on that national argument: The Kwankwasiyya factor: what this could stress-test Continue Reading Full Article POLITICAL SCANDALS Why Abba Yusuf’s APC Switch Is Shaking Kano Politics By Neema Asha Mwakalinga Travel & Culture Expert Neema Asha Mwakalinga Home Comment Jan 26, 2026 May 15, 2026 4 min read Copy link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Published Updated: Kano’s political equation is under fresh strain after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf moved from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), triggering immediate pushback from opposition parties and an angry response from his former platform. ADVERTISEMENT The Kwankwasiyya factor: what this could stress-test Even for analysts who expect party switching to continue nationwide, Kano is a special case because of how strongly political identity and mobilisation have been shaped by the Kwankwasiyya bloc. If Yusuf’s move weakens the NNPP’s structure in the state, APC could gain organisational advantage. If, however, the movement’s grassroots loyalty holds independently of Yusuf’s position, the defection could become a test of whether Kano voters follow platforms, personalities, or entrenched political networks. A deeper look at the fault lines this creates in Kano’s power structure is also discussed here . What to watch next (without guessing outcomes) Formal registration and attendance: whether national APC figures publicly anchor the “homecoming” narrative in Kano. NNPP’s response strategy: whether the party rallies around Kwankwasiyya structures to show it retains voter loyalty. Opposition coordination: whether PDP/ADC/LP translate rhetorical pushback into practical alliances on the ground. 2027 calculations: whether this becomes a template for further high-profile switches or a cautionary tale if voters punish perceived opportunism. source: The PUNCH report ADVERTISEMENT Related Articles Students Guide How to Check WAEC Results by SMS Send WAEC*ExamNo*PIN*ExamYear to 32327 on MTN, Celtel or Glo for N30. . - Tanzania Launches Rail-Lake Trade Corridor to DRC
Tanzania launches the Tabora–Kigoma SGR, Kigoma Port upgrades and four cargo vessels to strengthen trade with DRC and Burundi. Tanzania has launched a major package of railway, port and cargo-vessel projects designed to turn Kigoma into a stronger trade gateway between the Indian Ocean and the Great Lakes region. President Samia Suluhu Hassan laid the foundation stone for the Tabora–Kigoma section of Tanzania's Standard Gauge Railway on July 20, 2026. During the same event in Kigoma, she also launched four new cargo vessels and expansion works at Kigoma Port on Lake Tanganyika. Together, the projects are intended to create a faster transport chain linking Dar es Salaam with western Tanzania, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi. The main project is the 506-kilometre Tabora–Kigoma SGR, also known as Lot Six of Tanzania's modern railway network. Tanzania Railways Corporation says the section includes 411 kilometres of main railway line and 95 kilometres of passing loops and sidings. It will also have 10 passenger stations and two major freight terminals at Uvinza and Katosho. The Citizen reported the value of the rail project at Sh6.31 trillion during the July 20 launch. When the construction contract was signed in December 2022, TRC valued it at $2.21 billion, then equivalent to Sh5.12 trillion. The railway is being built by a joint venture between China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China Railway Construction Corporation. Construction has passed 10 percent, according to figures reported at the launch, and completion is now scheduled for 2030. This means the ceremony marked the formal launch of the project in Kigoma, not the opening of a completed railway service. Four cargo vessels added to Lake Tanganyika President Samia also launched four cargo vessels intended to increase the movement of goods across Lake Tanganyika. Four cargo vessels added to Lake Tanganyika President Samia also launched four cargo vessels intended to increase the movement of goods across Lake Tanganyika. Each vessel can carry 2,000 tonnes per trip, giving the four vessels a combined capacity of 8,000 tonnes when operating at the same time. Each is about 70 metres long and 15 metres wide. ADVERTISEMENT The vessels were built by Golden Logistics Company Limited. Tanzania Ports Authority Director General Plasduce Mbossa said the government has also reached an agreement with Zijin Mining Group to support the movement of cargo from the DRC through Kigoma. The additional ships are expected to double the number of large cargo vessels operating on the lake from four to eight. Tanzania also plans to add two more vessels, while a contractor is being secured for another ship capable of carrying 3,000 tonnes. Kigoma Port is being expanded The rail and vessel projects depend on Kigoma Port being able to receive larger ships and handle more cargo. Expansion work includes the rehabilitation of the port's 310-metre cargo quay. Work is underway on a 190-metre section while the remaining 120 metres stays open to avoid stopping current operations. The project will deepen the port from 3.5 metres to six metres, allowing larger vessels to dock more safely. Tanzania is also constructing a new 170-metre passenger terminal with capacity for 400 people at a time, compared with the current limit of about 40. ADVERTISEMENT Once the work is completed, Kigoma Port's annual cargo-handling capacity is expected to rise from 800,000 tonnes to two million tonnes. The port project is scheduled for completion in 2027. How the new trade corridor will work The strategy is to connect rail, port and lake transport into one route. Cargo arriving at Dar es Salaam Port will be moved inland by SGR through Morogoro, Dodoma and Tabora to Kigoma. At Kigoma Port, goods can be transferred to vessels for delivery across Lake Tanganyika to the DRC, Burundi and other markets around the lake. In the opposite direction, minerals and other exports from eastern DRC could cross the lake from Kalemie to Kigoma, continue by rail to Dar es Salaam and then reach international markets by sea. TPA said Zijin Mining also plans to support facilities at Kigoma Port and the development of a roughly 500-kilometre road connecting the mineral-rich Manono area to Kalemie Port in the DRC. That connection could give producers in eastern DRC another route to global markets instead of relying mainly on longer overland corridors. Zambia also showed 1,000-plus searches , up more than 300%, although that wave had begun around 22 hours earlier. Google did not display a Breakout label. Those figures are a snapshot of event-level demand, not a permanent measure of Boyd’s popularity. The pattern nevertheless points to clear identity searches: “Who is Maya Boyd?”, “Maya Boyd age”, “Maya Boyd Storm” and “new Storm actress.” Who is Maya Boyd? Maya Boyd is a stage-trained American actress, singer and dancer from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She built her professional reputation on Broadway before being announced as Storm. Her route into musical theatre was unusually fast. In a 2024 Broadway.com interview , Boyd said dance—not acting or singing—was her original focus. She had not performed in a musical before applying to the University of Michigan’s musical-theatre programme. Boyd described growing up in an academically oriented family. Both parents are doctors, and she is the youngest of five daughters, including her twin sister. She said her family supported her decision to pursue intensive dance training even though the arts were not the expected career path in the household. That background matters because the Storm role is not the product of a long filmography. Marvel has selected an actor whose professional training came through dance, voice and live theatre, and whose first major global screen role will place her before a far larger audience. How old is Maya Boyd? Maya Boyd is 23 years old as of August 2026 . The clearest first-person evidence comes from an April 7, 2026 Theatrely interview , in which Boyd referred to herself as 23. Current profiles report that she was born on November 26, 2002, in Ann Arbor. Because the precise date has not appeared in a long-established official Marvel or Broadway biography reviewed by XTRAfrica, publishers should cite it carefully rather than presenting copied biography-site data as independent confirmation. ADVERTISEMENT What is Maya Boyd’s nationality? Maya Boyd is American . She was raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and attended the University of Michigan. There is no reliable evidence in the sources reviewed that Boyd is Kenyan, Wakandan—Wakanda is fictional—or a citizen of another African country. Search interest in Kenya and Zambia is connected primarily to the character she will play. Storm, not Boyd, is the figure with an established African identity in Marvel canon. Any article that labels the actor Kenyan because she has been cast as Ororo Munroe would be inaccurate. Maya Boyd’s education and early training Boyd earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Michigan. Her Broadway.com profile and interviews describe her completing the degree while already working professionally in New York. She initially trained primarily as a dancer and took part in an Alvin Ailey summer programme. A last-minute application to Michigan’s musical-theatre programme redirected her career. Boyd has said she prepared audition material despite having no previous musical-theatre performance experience and was accepted. At Michigan, she learned to combine the disciplines she would later use on Broadway: acting, singing and movement. She was still a full-time senior when her first Broadway opportunity arrived. Maya Boyd’s Broadway career Merrily We Roll Along Boyd made her Broadway debut in the acclaimed revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Merrily We Roll Along in 2023. She worked as an onstage swing, played the Mimi from Paramount/Make-Up Artist track and understudied Gussie. The production gave Boyd a high-level professional education while she completed her final university year. In her Broadway.com interview, she described balancing classes, exams and performances rather than abandoning her degree. & Juliet In May 2024, Boyd succeeded Lorna Courtney in the title role of & Juliet . Broadway.com reported that she took over the role on May 14. The musical reimagines what might have happened if Shakespeare’s Juliet had survived. Its pop score and physically demanding staging required Boyd to sing, act and dance through a leading role eight times a week. It turned her from a Broadway newcomer and understudy into a principal performer. Joe Turner’s Come and Gone Boyd next moved into straight drama as Molly Cunningham in the 2026 Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone , directed by Debbie Allen. The production marked her first professional play. In her Theatrely interview, Boyd said working without songs and choreography made the process more exposed and challenged her to rely on the text and her fellow actors. The role expanded her stage résumé beyond musicals before Marvel’s casting announcement. ADVERTISEMENT Who is Storm in Marvel? Storm’s real name is Ororo Munroe . She is a mutant who can control weather and atmospheric conditions, including wind, rain, lightning and temperature. She is also a leader of the X-Men and has often been portrayed as regal, strategic and fiercely protective of her community. According to Marvel’s official Storm profile , Ororo’s story links the United States, Egypt and Kenya. Her mother, N’Dare, is Kenyan, while her father, David Munroe, is American. Ororo was born in New York, spent part of her childhood in Cairo and later travelled through Africa before joining the X-Men. Storm also has a significant relationship with T’Challa, the Black Panther. Their marriage made her queen of the fictional African nation of Wakanda for a period in the comics. Marvel’s own account of Storm and Black Panther’s relationship traces that connection, although the coming film’s plot has not been disclosed. This history explains why Storm is especially meaningful to African Marvel fans. She is not simply a superhero who happens to appear in African settings; her family background, early life, leadership and political relationships form a major part of her identity. Why Maya Boyd’s casting matters to African audiences Storm has been one of the most visible Black female superheroes in global popular culture for decades. Yet live-action films have often given only limited space to her African upbringing, leadership abilities and broader comic history. Boyd’s casting creates new questions for audiences in Kenya and elsewhere: Will the film name Ororo’s Kenyan heritage? Will it show any part of her life in Africa? Will Wakanda be part of her story? How will Boyd approach the character’s voice, bearing and powers? Marvel has not answered those questions. A useful African-focused profile should therefore explain the canon without pretending the film will reproduce it exactly. The distinction also protects Boyd from inaccurate identity claims. She can be an important casting choice for African viewers without being presented as African herself. The relevance comes from the role, the global reach of the MCU and the public interest around how Marvel will portray one of its most prominent African-connected characters. Is Maya Boyd the first actress to play Storm? No. Halle Berry played Storm in the original 2000s X-Men films, beginning with X-Men in 2000. Alexandra Shipp portrayed a younger version of the character in the later Fox prequel films. Boyd will be the first actress announced to play Storm in Marvel Studios’ new main X-Men film after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox’s entertainment assets. Her version is expected to belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe rather than continuing the previous Fox series. What do we know about Marvel’s new X-Men film? The film is scheduled to open in cinemas on May 5, 2028 . Jake Schreier is directing, while Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are credited in current reports as writers. The confirmed cast includes: Maya Boyd as Ororo Munroe/Storm Sadie Sink as Jean Grey Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier/Professor X Samara Weaving as Emma Frost Inde Navarrette as Rogue Adam Driver as Mister Sinister Marvel has not publicly revealed a full plot, Storm’s costume, her accent, the extent of her powers, her screen time or whether her Kenyan history will appear. Fan art and social-media claims should not be confused with official production material. Maya Boyd movies and screen career Boyd is best known for theatre, not an extensive list of films or television programmes. The coming X-Men film is widely described as her feature-film debut based on her currently documented professional credits. - DRC Moves to Turn Kasumbalesa Into a $600 Million Regional Trade Hub
DRC advances the $600 million Kasumbalesa Dry Port, a major logistics hub planned to handle up to 11 million tonnes of freight annually. The proposed 60-hectare logistics hub is designed to accommodate more than 1,250 trucks, process up to 11 million tonnes of freight annually and strengthen the DRC’s position in regional trade. KINSHASA, August 26, 2026 — The Democratic Republic of the Congo has advanced the proposed $600 million Kasumbalesa Dry Port through a three-day technical review focused on the project’s financial, operational and institutional framework. The review brought together the Ministry of Transport, the Office de Gestion du Fret Multimodal (OGEFREM), South Africa’s Yellowstone Consortium and financial partners in Kinshasa. Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Jean-Pierre Bemba participated in the restitution of the project’s due-diligence findings as the parties worked to consolidate the elements required for implementation. Actualite.cd reported that the technical sessions were organized to define the mechanisms needed to make the future logistics platform viable, efficient and capable of supporting the movement of goods through one of the DRC’s most important commercial gateways. A new logistics platform at the DRC–Zambia border The dry port is planned for Kasumbalesa in Haut-Katanga, at the principal commercial border crossing connecting the DRC and Zambia along the regional Copperbelt corridor. It is intended to centralize freight processing, ease pressure on the border post and improve the movement of cargo entering the Congolese market. According to the Agence Congolaise de Presse , the project follows a concession contract signed on December 1, 2025, covering the construction and operation of the facility. The reported structure is a 23-year build-operate-transfer arrangement under which the infrastructure would ultimately be transferred to the Congolese state. The planned hub would occupy approximately 60 hectares, provide space for more than 1,250 trucks and have the capacity to process an estimated 11 million tonnes of merchandise annually. A digital operating system is expected to support cargo scanning, shipment traceability, payments and border management. The platform is also expected to connect the DRC’s freight system with seven African ports. Reported connections include major gateways such as Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Beira and Durban, allowing cargo destined for the DRC to be coordinated through a central logistics facility at Kasumbalesa. Zoom Eco reported that project estimates anticipate approximately 2,500 jobs during construction and 800 permanent positions once the facility becomes operational. Project planners also expect centralized freight processing and digital border systems to reduce cargo-transit times significantly. Current projections indicate that some procedures that can take several days could eventually be completed within three or four hours. The financial structure reportedly includes Standard Bank as coordinating bank and representative of lenders, with Afreximbank also associated with the proposed financing. Several media outlets are facing backlash for using a photograph of Bukayo Saka to illustrate England's recent defeat to Iceland. Saka, who came on as a substitute in the 65th minute during the game at Wembley, was prominently featured on the back pages of newspapers like The Star and The Sun. The Telegraph used his image for a player ratings post, and BBC Sport's live text also displayed Saka's picture during the match. Former England striker Ian Wright criticized the choice, suggesting the editors knew the implications of their decisions. Kick It Out chief executive Tony Burnett penned an open letter to editors, emphasizing the media's responsibility to avoid reinforcing negative stereotypes and discrimination. Burnett highlighted the ongoing issue of racism in football, despite progress with prosecutions and the Online Safety Bill. Delroy Corinaldi, executive director of the Black Footballers Partnership, called the use of Saka's image "divisive," referencing similar past incidents involving players like Raheem Sterling. Sterling had previously accused the media of fueling racism by unfairly targeting young black footballers. Saka, along with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, was subjected to severe online abuse following England's Euro 2020 final loss, where they missed penalties. Wright and football journalist Darren Lewis both called for greater media responsibility and support for players. BBC Sport has sought responses from The Sun, The Star, The Telegraph, the Independent Press Standards Organisation (Ipso), and the News Media Association. - Burna Boy Sets African Spotify Record With 50 Million Listeners
Burna Boy becomes the first African artist to pass 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify, boosted by Dai Dai with Shakira. Burna Boy has pushed African music into another historic streaming moment. According to the report , the Nigerian superstar has become the first African artist to cross 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify, setting a new benchmark for the continent’s music scene on the global platform. The milestone was reached on Monday, making Burna Boy the African artist with the highest monthly listener count ever recorded on Spotify. For an artist who has spent years carrying Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and Nigerian pop into bigger rooms, this is another sign of how far his sound has travelled. A major part of the surge comes from “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Colombian pop icon Shakira. The song has been sitting at the top of Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart for several days, gaining even more attention during the ongoing FIFA World Cup. The success of “Dai Dai” has also boosted Shakira’s own streaming numbers. She recently crossed 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify for the first time in her career, becoming the second Latino artist to reach that level after Bad Bunny. The song’s video has also made noise on YouTube, where “Dai Dai” reportedly became the first music video of 2026 to pass 300 million views. That kind of crossover power shows how a Nigerian artist and a global Latin pop star can turn one song into a worldwide event. For Burna Boy, the 50 million Spotify monthly listeners record is bigger than a number. It speaks to the growing power of African music, the international reach of Nigerian artists, and the way Afrobeats continues to shape global pop culture. Burna Boy has already built a career on breaking doors open. With this new Spotify record, he is not just celebrating another personal win — he is helping redraw the map for African artists on the world stage. - Kagame Cornered Ahead of Washington Peace Talks With Congo
Under U.S. pressure, Kagame and Tshisekedi head to Washington on Dec. 4. Congo demands M23 withdrawal and Rwandan troop exit before any peace deal is signed. Under intense US pressure, Paul Kagame and Félix Tshisekedi are expected in Washington on December 4 for a peace summit. But can there be real peace when Rwanda-backed M23 rebels still occupy Congolese territory, and Rwanda refuses to withdraw its troops? Even Rwanda’s own foreign minister, Olivier Nduhungirehe, on RFI, admitted that Rwanda’s military withdrawal is conditional , not promised. Worse, he confirmed that M23 is blocking FDLR fighters from surrendering to MONUSCO, directly exposing Kigali’s control over rebel operations in eastern DRC. These are not peace negotiations; they are strategic stalling tactics. Meanwhile, Kagame’s tone during his November 27 press conference was strikingly meek. The man once praised as a “regional strongman” now appeared cornered: “Even the possibility of meeting in Washington is new... We’ve been limping... but at least there is that framework.” This is not diplomacy, it’s desperation. Kagame isn't coming to Washington because he wants peace. He's being dragged there by mounting international pressure, sanctions threats, and global exposure of Rwanda’s plunder economy built on Congolese minerals. For over a decade, Rwanda has supported proxy militias like M23 to occupy strategic mining zones in North Kivu. UN reports, regional observers, and Congolese officials have consistently documented Rwanda’s illegal economic war in Congo. Kagame’s refusal to withdraw, even after signing the June 27 Washington peace accord, proves that Rwanda is not interested in peace, only profit. President Tshisekedi, however, is seizing the moment. His participation in Washington is not a sign of surrender; it is a strategic decision to place Congo’s demands at the center of global diplomacy. Far from conceding, Tshisekedi is asserting Congo’s red lines: sovereignty, territorial integrity, and real accountability. His leadership has already led to international recognition, and the Washington summit offers an opportunity to expose Kigali’s duplicity on the world stage. That leadership is echoed by his government. Government Spokesperson Patrick Muyaya recently reaffirmed Congo’s sovereignty, declaring that the reopening of Goma Airport, currently blocked by Rwanda-backed M23 rebels, will happen only under the full authority of Kinshasa . "Those who oppose urgent humanitarian assistance do not just deny the crisis; they expose the brutality of their methods and the true face of their leadership," Muyaya stated. The stakes for Congo are high. Accepting a symbolic handshake without real action would mean legitimizing the occupation of its own territory. Tshisekedi must, and will, stand firm. - WHY Ramaphosa’s Rejects Resignation Calls
Ramaphosa rejects resignation calls after court revives Phala Phala impeachment process. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has rejected calls to resign after a report said the Constitutional Court revived impeachment proceedings linked to the Phala Phala cash scandal. The case matters because it returns a politically damaging issue to the centre of South African governance at a sensitive moment for Ramaphosa and the African National Congress. The scandal stems from the theft of foreign currency hidden in furniture at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala game farm, an episode that has raised questions about accountability, disclosure and political trust. In a national address, Ramaphosa said the court ruling did not require him to leave office and pledged to defend himself through constitutional processes. The Associated Press also reported that an impeachment committee is being established to reinvestigate the allegations. The legal pressure follows a Constitutional Court judgment delivered on May 8, 2026, which found that Parliament’s earlier handling of the matter was invalid. The ruling means the impeachment process can move forward, though analysts say Ramaphosa would still likely survive a final parliamentary vote. Politically, the timing is difficult for the ANC. The party no longer holds the parliamentary dominance it once did and faces renewed scrutiny before municipal elections expected later this year. Opposition parties are likely to use the revived process to question Ramaphosa’s anti-corruption credentials and the ANC’s record on accountability. Still, impeachment remains a high bar. Removing a president requires significant parliamentary support, and Ramaphosa is expected to retain backing from ANC lawmakers and key coalition partners. He built a huge online audience through unpredictable livestreams, comedy and collaborations with some of Africa's biggest entertainers. The young creator is now attracting fresh attention for a different reason: his highly public marriage journey with fellow TikTok personality Jarvis. Days before their announced white wedding, Peller displayed 12 cattle received as wedding gifts and warned people without invitations not to attend. The video spread quickly across Nigerian social media, pushing new searches for Peller's real name, age, career, wife and wedding date. The couple announced that their white wedding would take place on August 1, 2026 . That ceremony follows customary marriage rites in Benin City and publicly shared moments that Nigerian outlets described as part of a civil marriage process. Peller profile Detail Information Popular name Peller Real name Habeeb Hamzat Other reported name Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja Date of birth May 10, 2005 Age 21, as of July 2026 Place associated with his early life Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria Nationality Nigerian Occupation Livestreamer and content creator Main platform TikTok Known for Comedy, celebrity livestreams and audience interaction Partner Jarvis, also known as Jadrolita Jarvis's reported name Elizabeth Amadou Aminata Traditional marriage rites Completed in Benin City in June 2026 Announced white wedding date August 1, 2026 Major streaming milestone TikTok's most-watched African livestream of 2024 with Davido Why is Peller trending? According to Legit.ng , the streamer said Pastor Tobi Adegboyega supplied 10 of the cattle while two other supporters contributed one each. Leadership also reported the video and Peller's warning that anyone without an invitation or the expected wedding fabric should stay away from the event. The cattle were not a surprise marriage announcement. They formed part of the final preparations for a ceremony that Peller and Jarvis had already publicised. On July 11, the pair shared a cinematic announcement carrying the date 01.08.2026 . Multiple Nigerian news organisations reported that the date referred to their white wedding. The new cattle video renewed interest because it made the scale of the preparations visible. It also gave Peller's audience another characteristically dramatic moment to discuss before the ceremony. Why are there 12 cattle for Peller and Jarvis's wedding? Peller said the cattle were gifts for the wedding. In his video, he thanked the people who provided them and said all 12 would be prepared for invited guests. The spectacle quickly became part of the online conversation around the ceremony. The names of the two individual donors besides Pastor Tobi were reported differently by the two main outlets covering the clip. Legit.ng named Habi Forex and Bless Genius, while Leadership named Abbey Forest and Bless Genius. Because of that difference, the safest confirmed account is that Peller publicly credited Pastor Tobi Adegboyega with 10 cattle and credited two other supporters with one each. The total of 12 is consistent across the reports. The streamer also said security would be present and advised uninvited people not to arrive at the venue. His statement should be understood as a warning in a social-media video, not an official security announcement from the police or any government agency. What is Peller's real name? Peller's real name is Habeeb Hamzat . That is the name used consistently by Punch , Legit.ng , BusinessDay and several other established Nigerian news organisations. Some reports reverse the order to Hamzat Habeeb , while a number of 2026 wedding stories use the longer name Hamzat Habeeb Adelaja . The inconsistency explains why searches for "Peller real name" return different answers. No publicly accessible identity document was verified for this article, so it would be careless to treat every extra name appearing on biography websites as official. For clarity, this profile uses Habeeb Hamzat , the form most widely and consistently reported by mainstream Nigerian publishers. It notes the longer reported version without claiming that an unverified online biography has established his complete legal name. How old is Peller? Peller is 21 years old as of July 2026. The age can be traced through his own public birthday celebration. On May 10, 2025, Peller announced that he had turned 20. Legit.ng 's report on the celebration included his birthday message and photographs from the occasion. That public record supports a birth date of May 10, 2005 . He therefore turned 21 on May 10, 2026. Older articles calling him 19 or 20 were often accurate when they were published but became outdated after his next birthday. Other pages appear to repeat an old age without updating the year. When age is important, a date of birth is more useful than a fixed number. Peller's age will change, but May 10, 2005, provides readers with a consistent reference point. Where is Peller from? Peller is Nigerian and is strongly associated with Ikorodu in Lagos State . Mainstream profiles identify Ikorodu as the place connected to his upbringing and early content-creation years. It also forms part of the public story of how a young Lagos creator turned ordinary online interactions into a major entertainment career. Reliable public sources do not provide enough consistent detail about his parents, siblings or full family history to support a long family section. Many low-quality biography pages attach occupations, names and financial claims to his relatives without showing where those facts came from. Those details are excluded here unless Peller or a credible source confirms them. ADVERTISEMENT Peller's early life and education Peller's public career began at a young age, and much of what audiences know about him comes from livestreams rather than formal interviews. He became widely known before attending university. His informal speech, playful grammar and exaggerated online character sometimes attracted criticism, but those same qualities helped make his broadcasts recognisable. In January 2026, Peller announced that he had gained admission to study law at a private university in Lagos. According to Punch , he did not initially name the institution. He said he wanted to respond to people who mocked his educational background and improve how he expressed himself. Days later, Premium Times reported that he was considering leaving the programme because the class schedule interfered with his ability to livestream and earn money. That episode does not establish that he permanently withdrew. It shows the tension between a conventional university timetable and the digital career through which he had already built his public identity. The name of the university and Peller's current enrolment status should not be presented as settled facts unless the institution or Peller provides a clear update. How did Peller become famous? Peller rose to national attention through TikTok livestreaming . Unlike a polished television presenter, he built his appeal around unpredictability. His broadcasts often feel like open conversations in which jokes, misunderstandings, reactions and guest appearances can change the direction at any moment. His style connects strongly with young viewers familiar with Nigerian street humour, Pidgin English, Yoruba expressions and the fast pace of TikTok culture. Peller's rise accelerated when established musicians and content creators joined his live sessions. These appearances introduced him to audiences beyond his original follower base and turned individual streams into entertainment news. Collaborations with stars were useful, but his own personality kept viewers returning. He could turn an ordinary conversation into a viral clip, then carry the attention into the next live broadcast. By 2024, he was no longer simply a rising TikTok comic. He had become one of the central names in Nigeria's fast-growing livestreaming scene. Peller's livestream record with Davido One of the biggest moments in Peller's career came through his October 2024 TikTok livestream with Davido. Premium Times reported that TikTok's Year on TikTok 2024 review identified the session as the most-watched TikTok livestream in Africa at that time. The report said the broadcast attracted more than 389,800 total viewers and reached over 164,000 concurrent viewers at its peak . Those two figures measure different things: Total viewers count the broader number of people who entered or watched the stream. Concurrent viewers measure how many people were watching at the same moment. This distinction matters because online articles sometimes use one figure as though it were the other. That creates conflicting claims about whether the record was 164,000, 260,000, 389,800 or another number. The most defensible account is the one tied to TikTok's 2024 review: the Davido session was described as Africa's most-watched TikTok livestream of that year, with more than 389,800 viewers overall and a peak above 164,000 concurrent viewers. Jarvis and fellow creator Jo Blaq also appeared during the stream. Davido used the session to discuss and promote his music, while Peller showed that African livestreams could attract an audience on the scale of a major entertainment broadcast. What kind of content does Peller create? Peller's main work combines several forms of digital entertainment: Interactive TikTok livestreams Comedy and reaction content Celebrity conversations Challenges and unscripted exchanges Collaborative videos with Jarvis and other creators Public appearances and event-based content His presentation is deliberately loose. Awkward pauses, exaggerated reactions and arguments can become part of the entertainment instead of being removed in editing. That approach suits livestreaming because viewers feel that they are watching events happen in real time. It also produces short clips that can circulate independently on TikTok, Instagram, X and entertainment blogs. Peller's career demonstrates how African creators can build a media business without beginning in radio, television, film or music. The audience comes first; traditional celebrity access follows later. Peller's awards and recognition Peller's rise brought recognition beyond follower counts. BusinessDay listed him among the Nigerian creators shaping the country's streaming industry. The newspaper also reported that he won Best Content Creator at the Trace Awards & Festival in 2024 . The value of that recognition is larger than one trophy. It reflects the point at which livestreamers began to be treated as part of Nigeria's mainstream entertainment economy. Peller's celebrity collaborations and major live audiences also helped show brands and established entertainers that streaming could offer direct access to young African viewers. His career remains closely tied to TikTok, but his public profile now extends across Instagram, YouTube, entertainment news and live appearances. Who is Jarvis? Jarvis is a Nigerian content creator who is also known as Jadrolita . ADVERTISEMENT Her name is commonly reported as Elizabeth Amadou Aminata , although some outlets place the names in a different order. She became popular through a distinctive artificial intelligence-inspired character. Her controlled movements, robotic delivery and visual presentation led viewers to describe her as a human AI robot. That performance made her recognisable before her relationship with Peller became a major public story. She and Peller later built a strong online partnership through livestreams, comedy and couple content. Their different styles worked well together. Jarvis's controlled character contrasted with Peller's loud, unpredictable presentation, creating moments viewers could easily recognise and share. How did Peller and Jarvis meet? According to Pulse Nigeria's relationship timeline , Peller and Jarvis first connected through a TikTok live session in 2023. Peller has said Jarvis entered one of his broadcasts with her sister and that their conversation developed from there. They soon appeared together more often. Romance-themed photographs and repeated livestream collaborations encouraged followers to speculate that the partnership had become a relationship. For a period, the exact status remained unclear. Their online content mixed genuine personal developments with jokes, staged moments and public disagreements, making it difficult for viewers to separate private life from performance. By 2026, however, their marriage preparations were no longer only fan speculation. The couple publicly documented proposals, customary rites, wedding materials and an announced ceremony date. Peller and Jarvis's engagement Peller first proposed publicly to Jarvis in December 2024. Jarvis initially described the ring as a promise ring. She later said the proposal had been genuine but that she played down the engagement because she believed they were still young. On June 3, 2026, Peller proposed again at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana. Pulse reported that Jarvis accepted the beachfront proposal. That second engagement gave the couple a clearer public starting point for the marriage events that followed in Nigeria. Peller and Jarvis's traditional marriage Later in June 2026, Peller travelled to Benin City in Edo State to meet Jarvis's family. The couple wore coordinated traditional clothing, and Peller publicly said he had paid Jarvis's bride price. Premium Times and Pulse described the event as the completion of traditional marriage rites. This stage is important because it means the August white wedding is not the couple's first or only formal marriage event. In many Nigerian communities, customary marriage includes family introduction, agreement between families, fulfilment of traditional requirements and payment of bride price. A later civil or church ceremony can form another part of the same marriage journey. Did Peller and Jarvis have a civil wedding? Premium Times, Pulse and Naija News reported that Peller and Jarvis shared moments connected to a civil wedding after the traditional ceremony. The public material indicates that they began or completed a civil stage, but the outlets did not publish a marriage certificate or detailed registry record. The careful wording is therefore that the couple shared civil-wedding moments reported by Nigerian media , rather than making unsupported claims about a specific registry, certificate number or legal filing. This distinction does not dismiss their marriage. It simply separates what the couple showed publicly from documents that were not available for independent verification. When is Peller and Jarvis's white wedding? Peller and Jarvis announced August 1, 2026 , as the date of their white wedding. Their save-the-date video appeared on verified social-media pages and ended with the date 01.08.2026. Legit.ng , Premium Times and Pulse Nigeria all reported the announcement. The ceremony was still upcoming when this article was updated on July 24. It should therefore be described as scheduled, not already completed. If plans change or the ceremony takes place, the article should be updated with confirmed information and new photographs from the couple or accredited media. Peller and Jarvis's wedding preparations The couple has turned much of the preparation into public content. They unveiled the wedding identity #Jarpel , distributed aso ebi and personally visited public figures with invitations. Punch reported that Peller described an eight-yard aso ebi package costing ₦700,000 and said about 400 guests were expected to wear the fabric. ADVERTISEMENT Pulse reported a separate 12-yard package priced at ₦1 million. The difference appears to reflect different quantities or package options rather than one outlet necessarily correcting the other. The 12 cattle displayed in the viral July 24 video became another visible part of the preparation. Because Peller and Jarvis built their careers by sharing their lives online, the wedding has developed as both a personal ceremony and a large digital entertainment event. Is Jarvis Peller's girlfriend, fiancée or wife? The answer depends on which stage of the relationship is being discussed. Jarvis was first publicly known as Peller's collaborator and girlfriend. She later became his fiancée after the proposals. By late June 2026, major Nigerian outlets reported that the couple had completed traditional marriage rites, including bride-price payment. They also shared moments described as part of a civil wedding. It is therefore reasonable for current reports to call Jarvis Peller's wife, especially in the context of the completed customary rites. However, readers searching for the "Peller and Jarvis wedding" may also be looking for their white wedding , which was scheduled for August 1. A clear article should not force every stage into a single label. Their relationship moved from collaborators to partners, engagement and customary marriage, with a public white-wedding ceremony announced afterward. Peller's net worth has not been independently verified. Online biography pages publish widely different estimates based on TikTok gifts, brand deals, cars and public spending. Those estimates do not provide audited accounts, tax records or confirmed ownership information. BusinessDay has reported claims from Peller's manager about his streaming earnings, but income from selected broadcasts is not the same as net worth. Net worth would require verified information about assets, liabilities, taxes, management fees and business expenses. This article therefore does not attach an invented fortune to his name. - DRC and Angola Advance Shared Offshore Oil Project
DRC and Angola sign a final addendum advancing their shared offshore oil zone, but no production date or revenue forecast is public. The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola have completed another major legal step toward jointly developing petroleum resources in a shared offshore zone. Congolese Hydrocarbons Minister Acacia Bandubola Mbongo and Angola's Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, signed an addendum to the production-sharing contract for Block 14/23 in Luanda on July 22, 2026. They also signed a joint declaration covering the implementation of the governance and management agreement for the Maritime Zone of Common Interest, known by its French and Portuguese abbreviation, ZIC. The agreements complete administrative, financial and legal adjustments that officials say are necessary to move the project into its operational phase. That is an important advance, but it does not mean offshore oil production has begun. Neither government disclosed a first-production date, new investment value, expected output, cargo schedule or forecast of how much public revenue the project could generate. What exactly did the DRC and Angola sign? The addendum updates the production-sharing contract governing Block 14/23, the petroleum area linked to the joint maritime zone. According to Angola's Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas , experts from both countries met in Luanda on July 21 and 22 to review the legal instruments, governance arrangements and financial mechanisms required for shared petroleum operations. The two governments also acknowledged that the ratification procedures for the governance agreement and its addendum had been completed. The Congolese Press Agency described the signature as the conclusion of the latest administrative, financial and legal changes needed to advance the project. In practical terms, the documents are intended to establish who participates in the joint institutions, how decisions will be supervised and how money connected to the project will be monitored. The DRC and Angola exchanged lists of representatives for the commissions and committees responsible for management, operations and oversight. The DRC has designated members for the ZIC's interministerial and steering structures, as well as the body responsible for monitoring and managing the joint account. ADVERTISEMENT What happens next? One of the clearest next steps concerns the joint financial account. The two countries agreed that the Joint Account Supervisory Commission should hold its first meeting within 30 days. That commission is expected to: Complete the procedures for opening the joint account Approve the bank where the account will be held Establish rules for managing deposited funds Begin carrying out its financial-oversight responsibilities These measures matter because a cross-border petroleum project requires both countries to agree on how project money is received, recorded, controlled and distributed. However, creating an account-management structure is not the same as receiving production revenue. Commercial oil must first be developed and produced before the project can generate income from sales. Officials also instructed technical teams and the project operator to implement the commitments contained in the new documents. Where is the shared petroleum zone? The Maritime Zone of Common Interest is located off the Atlantic coast, between the southern part of Angola's Block 14 and the northern sections of Blocks 1, 15 and 31. The arrangement allows the two neighbours to cooperate on petroleum resources in a maritime area where their interests meet instead of allowing the zone to remain blocked by competing claims or unclear jurisdiction. The current framework grew from a process that began more than two decades ago. Angolan officials trace the cooperation back to 2003, while a formal cooperation protocol was signed in 2007. Angola and the DRC signed a new governance instrument in Kinshasa on July 13, 2023, followed by further legal updates. In December 2023, the parties signed the production-sharing contract for Block 14/23. Angola approved an agreement dealing with management, income-sharing and tax obligations in 2025. Additional governance instruments were approved in January 2026 before the latest addendum was signed in July. The long timeline shows why the new signature matters: it is intended to move the partnership away from years of negotiation and toward implementation. Who is expected to operate the project? Chevron's Angolan subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company, or CABGOC, was selected as operator when the production-sharing contract was signed in 2023. ADVERTISEMENT The contractor group announced at the time comprised: CABGOC: 31% Azule Energy Angola: 20% Etu Energias Angola Block 14: 20% Galp: 9% The DRC's state oil company SONAHYDROC: 10% Angola's SONANGOL P&P: 10% These percentages, published by Angola's National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency , describe the participating interests in the contractor group. They should not automatically be interpreted as the final division of government revenue between the DRC and Angola. Taxes, cost recovery, profit petroleum, state participation and other contract terms can affect what each party ultimately receives. The complete financial model and current country-level revenue-sharing formula were not detailed in the July announcements. Why could this be important for the DRC? The DRC is already one of the world's most important mineral-producing countries, but its oil industry remains relatively small compared with its mining sector and with neighbouring Angola's petroleum industry. A successful shared offshore project could give the DRC access to new petroleum income, offshore operating experience and specialist skills. It could also expose Congolese engineers, technicians, regulators and state companies to a mature oil-producing industry with established offshore infrastructure. SONAHYDROC's participation gives the Congolese state oil company a direct place in the contractor group. The project's wider national value, however, will depend on more than ownership on paper. Congolese people will want to know whether the project creates: Skilled jobs and training for Congolese workers Contracts for Congolese companies Reliable tax and petroleum revenue Technology transfer to national institutions Investment in coastal communities and public services Strong protection against spills and marine damage Without these benefits, a production agreement can increase headline revenue without significantly changing daily life. What must be transparent? Both governments have presented transparency and equitable benefit-sharing as guiding principles for the joint zone. Those commitments will need to be supported by published information. Trending Now US Democrats' Rwanda Record: Peaceful Change and Congo Sovereignty . Selecting a recognised financial institution, defining authorised transactions and publishing audited statements would help citizens distinguish money actually received from future revenue projections. The DRC should also explain how SONAHYDROC's 10% participating interest will be financed and how any dividends, costs or liabilities will be reported. What about the environment? Offshore petroleum can generate revenue, but it also carries environmental risks. An oil spill could damage fisheries, coastal ecosystems and the livelihoods of communities that depend on the Atlantic coast. Offshore platforms and support vessels also require strict safety, waste-management and emergency-response systems. The governments and operator should therefore make environmental assessments, monitoring procedures and emergency plans accessible before major field activity begins. Communities should know who is responsible for responding to an incident, how damage would be measured and how affected families or businesses would be compensated. Environmental safeguards are not separate from the project's economic value. Weak protection can transfer the cost of petroleum development to citizens while companies and governments receive the income. Has oil production started? No production start was announced with the July 22 addendum. The signature advances the legal, governance and financial arrangements for the project. It opens the way for the parties to accelerate implementation, but further technical and commercial steps are still required. The latest official releases do not provide: A date for first oil Confirmed recoverable reserves Expected daily production A final development budget Projected government revenue A construction or drilling timetable Until those details are published, the most accurate description is that the DRC and Angola have completed a major legal step toward operationalising their shared offshore petroleum project. The agreement creates an opportunity, not yet an income stream. Its success will ultimately be measured by whether petroleum is produced safely, revenues are disclosed, Congolese workers and businesses participate, and the benefits reach the public.
