- Beyond Tokyo: Tyla’s ‘We Wanna Party’ Asia Run Hits Manila & Seoul
Tyla’s We Wanna Party tour ignites Asia as Manila, Seoul and Bangkok erupt with sold-out arenas, viral moments and unstoppable pop momentum. On 11 November, the We Wanna Party Asia Tour finally moved from Instagram fantasy to real-world sweat, opening in Tokyo as Tyla’s first full-scale headlining show since injury forced her to cancel a 2024 world run. The Ariake Arena date sold out its 15,000-capacity, a landmark moment for a 23-year-old South African pop star who has spent the last two years turning “Water” from TikTok trend into global calling card. From the minute the house lights dropped, you could feel that this wasn’t just another stop on a tour schedule; it was a reset button for an artist who’s been loudly manifesting “global pop star from Africa” and quietly rehabbing to get back on stage. Clips flooding YouTube and fan timelines show Tyla framed by towering LED panels and a tight squad of dancers, moving like one big popiano organism. The stage design leans into her visual language: chrome, yellows and club-ready strobes that echo the artwork for her WWP ( We Wanna Party ) EP, already past 100 million streams and counting. Japanese crowds have a reputation for being polite and reserved, but on the full-show uploads from the night you can hear them singing along to “Water” and “Truth or Dare,” word-perfect, phone flashlights bobbing like a low-lit ocean. But as every African touring story reminds us, nothing about global expansion is straightforward. When we first covered this Asia leg, Bangkok and Hong Kong were framed as part of a historic first wave: sell-out Thailand arena, Manila’s Mall of Asia, a clean five-city sprint from Tokyo to Singapore . Since then, real-world politics and logistics have come knocking. Thai outlets now report that her sold-out 14 November Bangkok show at Impact Challenger Hall 3 has been cancelled in observance of the national mourning period for the late Queen Mother Sirikit. Live-updating tour page also shows Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo date as cancelled “for unknown reasons,” even as new mainland China and Gulf shows are added to the route. Across stan forums and pop gossip threads , fans are debating everything from routing politics to over-ambitious scheduling a reminder that the business of putting an African woman at the centre of an Asian arena run is still fragile . What’s not fragile is the cultural subtext. A South African pop star, shaped by amapiano, gqom and Bacardi, just sold out a 15,000-cap arena in Tokyo a city that helped break everyone from Michael Jackson to BTS with an 11-minute EP and a handful of singles as her primary arsenal. On Tyla’s Instagram , the tone is breezy tour fits, rehearsal snippets, a quick “Asia, I love you already” energy but behind the grid is a highly organised push: the Pandora collab charm for her Tygers, the fashion-girl co-signs, the We Wanna Party EP doing numbers and seeding lyrics crowds in Tokyo now scream back to her. From here, the party snakes through mainland China, Southeast Asia and the Gulf, with arena and festival plays lined up from Hangzhou to Singapore, Mumbai, Riyadh and Dubai, according to the official tour hub at wewannaparty.asia . - Regina Daniels Says She Won’t Consider Marriage Again
Regina Daniels says she has no plans to remarry, citing trauma from her troubled marriage with Ned Nwoko and past public disputes. Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has stated that she has no plans to marry again, saying her experience in her current marriage has left her “traumatised.” Daniels made the remark while responding to a fan who asked whether she would consider marrying someone closer to her age. Her comment follows months of public scrutiny surrounding her relationship with her husband, politician Ned Nwoko. Their private disagreements became public in October after a viral video showed Daniels in tears, alleging domestic assault. Nwoko denied the allegations and claimed the actress was struggling with drug and alcohol misuse. Daniels later acknowledged using hard drugs but accused Nwoko of enabling the behaviour as a form of manipulation. The dispute led to widespread online debate and further attention on the couple’s relationship. When asked by a fan if she might marry again, the actress dismissed the idea, responding, “Nopeee, traumatised with that institution.” Continue Reading Full Article NOLLYWOOD UPDATES Regina Daniels Says She Won’t Consider Marriage Again By Witty Pascal Entertainment Editor Witty Pascal Home Comment Dec 10, 2025 May 15, 2026 1 min read Copy link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Published Updated: Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has stated that she has no plans to marry again, saying her experience in her current marriage has left her “traumatised.” Daniels made the remark while responding to a fan who asked whether she would consider marrying someone closer to her age. - Ruto Orders Teacher Promotion Slots Increased to 50,000
Ruto directs TSC to increase teacher promotion slots to 50,000, pledging extra funding as revised career guidelines await SRC approval. President William Ruto has directed Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission to increase teacher promotion opportunities from 34,016 to 50,000, promising additional government funding for the expanded exercise. Speaking during World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi on Monday, 5 October, Ruto said the government would provide the resources needed to raise the number of slots. The Standard reported the directive , which adds 15,984 opportunities to the advertised total. The announcement concerns the number of promotion opportunities. It does not mean that 50,000 teachers have already received promotions. What has Ruto announced on teacher promotions? Kenya’s president has directed TSC to expand the promotion exercise from 34,016 to 50,000 opportunities and pledged additional funding. The announcement increases the intended number of beneficiaries; individual promotions still depend on the commission’s implementation and selection process. An extra 15,984 promotion opportunities The difference between the advertised number and Ruto’s new target is 15,984 slots, an increase of about 47 per cent. For teachers seeking career advancement, the expanded target would create more opportunities than the original exercise. However, a larger total does not guarantee a promotion for every applicant or determine which grades will receive the additional positions. The Star’s July report on the original advertisement said the 34,016 vacancies covered 30 cadres, including teaching, school leadership, curriculum support and teacher-training college positions. Applications for that exercise were due by 10 August 2026. That deadline belongs to the earlier advertisement. Teachers should follow any subsequent TSC instructions on how the expanded exercise will be handled rather than treating Monday’s announcement as a new application notice. Career guidelines still await approval Continue Reading Full Article EDUCATION Ruto Orders Teacher Promotion Slots Increased to 50,000 By Kamau Bahati Entertainment Editor Kamau Bahati Home Comment Oct 5, 2026 Oct 5, 2026 4 min read Copy link Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Published Updated: President William Ruto has directed Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission to increase teacher promotion opportunities from 34,016 to 50,000, promising additional government funding for the expanded exercise. Teachers should follow any subsequent TSC instructions on how the expanded exercise will be handled rather than treating Monday’s announcement as a new application notice. Career guidelines still await approval Ruto also said consultations between TSC and teachers’ unions on revised Career Progression Guidelines had concluded. The proposals were awaiting approval by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, with the president expecting the process to finish within two weeks. Kenyans.co.ke ’s account of the address reported that the changes were intended to address teachers who had remained in the same job grade for extended periods. The promotion target and the guideline review are related but separate developments. Increasing the number of slots addresses the scale of the exercise, while the guidelines govern career progression. Ruto’s expected two-week timetable is a forecast, rather than confirmation that SRC has approved the proposals. The 50,000 target follows earlier commitments The government had already publicly committed to promoting 50,000 teachers in the 2026/27 financial year. ADVERTISEMENT A Government Advertising Agency report published on 2 June recorded Deputy President Kithure Kindiki announcing that target following consultations with unions. He said some teachers had remained at one job level for more than a decade. Monday’s development is therefore a fresh instruction to expand the advertised exercise to the previously announced target. Ruto also said the annual teacher promotion budget had been doubled from KSh1 billion to KSh2 billion and promised further resources for the expansion. Contract appointments are a separate measure Alongside the promotion directive, Ruto announced plans to move 20,000 contract teachers who had completed two years of service onto permanent and pensionable terms from January 2027. Nairobi News reported that the conversion would be supported by KSh4.9 billion in the 2026/27 budget. These appointments should be distinguished from the 50,000 promotion target: one changes employment terms, while the other concerns career advancement. Citizen Digital reported that Ruto said a proposed two-year collective bargaining cycle would be considered after the current 2025–2029 agreement. He did not announce that the existing agreement had already been shortened. What teachers should watch next The next practical questions concern TSC’s implementation of the expanded target, allocation of the additional slots and formal communication to applicants. SRC’s decision on the revised career guidelines will also be significant. For now, teachers have a presidential commitment to a larger promotion exercise. Kenyan President William Ruto addressed the nation with a message of sadness and strength after a day of protest, turmoil, and bloodshed. Describing the protests against his policies as "legitimate" but "hijacked by a group of organised criminals," Ruto warned that his government would use all means at its disposal to prevent a repeat of the violence. "Today's events mark a critical point on how we respond to threats to our peace," he stated. "We will ensure a situation of this nature does not recur again." The president's message aimed to regain control after days of escalating street protests. On Tuesday, the violence peaked with at least five people shot dead and hundreds injured. In the longer term, some fear the challenges ahead for Ruto are far from simple. Elected in 2022 with pledges to cut corruption, bolster the economy, and help the poor, Ruto now faces a rebellion against a crucial finance bill he insists is vital for nation-building. The opposition Ruto faces extends beyond parliament, with a movement fueled by social media discontent growing into widespread street protests. In Nairobi, key government buildings, including the governor's office, city hall, and parliament, were set ablaze. Protestors had threatened a "total shutdown," resulting in a chaotic and violent day marked by teargas and live fire from police. Ruto's refusal to abandon his budget amid the turmoil reflects his commitment to addressing Kenya's debt crisis, which exceeds $80 billion and consumes more than half of the annual tax revenues to service. Earlier this year, Kenya secured a restructuring of its international debt, boosting the currency's value. Ruto, recently recognized as a leading African statesman, argues that increasing taxes is preferable to cutting public services to control state finances. The finance bill, set to become law next Monday, introduces new or increased taxes on various items, though some contentious taxes were dropped after public consultation. Despite Ruto's focus on green energy and tech, his past association with a government marred by corruption undermines public trust in his tax policies. Many blame the financial woes on corruption, leading to a reluctance to accept higher taxes. The events in Nairobi highlight Ruto's precarious position. Condemned for a heavy-handed response to protests, he faces a determined youth-led movement, posing the biggest challenge to authority since Kenya's independence in 1963. The coming days are crucial, with a likely continued showdown between the government and its people.
