FIFA has revised its transfer rules ahead of the 2025 Club World Cup Prince Jean Oct 3, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link FIFA approved temporary transfer rules on Thursday to help players switch teams and compete in the Club World Cup in the United States in June-July. The move will allow players to sign contracts that expire on June 30, 2025, by signing early and for free with one of 32 teams. Those teams are Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and PSG. EPL: Redknapp Criticizes Guardiola's Man City After Loss to Brighton Prince Jean Nov 10, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Jamie Redknapp critiques Manchester City’s lackluster performance following a 2-1 defeat to Brighton, describing it as one of the weakest displays under Pep Guardiola. Credit:gettyimages Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp criticized Manchester City following their 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton on Saturday, calling it one of the worst performances he has seen from a Pep Guardiola team. Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp expressed his disappointment with City’s second-half display, pointing out their lack of defensive discipline, inability to win individual battles, and hesitance to move the ball forward. He remarked, “That is one of the worst halves of football I have seen from a Pep Guardiola side. They were abject; they didn’t defend, didn’t win individual battles, and didn’t pass the ball forward at times.” Although City showed promise in the first half, Redknapp observed how Brighton took control in the second half after manager Benjamin Hurzeler’s substitutions. Goals from Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley clinched the win for Brighton, leaving City with much to reflect on following an uncharacteristic loss. • Ethiopia Bondholders Express Disappointment Over Proposed 20% Haircut on $1 Billion Eurobond | Xtrafrica

Ethiopia Bondholders Express Disappointment Over Proposed 20% Haircut on $1 Billion Eurobond Mbeki edmond Aug 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –Ethiopia's recent proposal to impose a 20% haircut on its $1 billion Eurobond has sparked frustration among foreign bondholders, who argue that the move contradicts the country's economic potential. The creditor group, which collectively holds over 40% of the bond, expressed disappointment over the government's handling of the situation, emphasizing that the proposed reduction is inconsistent with their assessment of Ethiopia's financial stability. The bondholders are now calling for greater transparency and a more collaborative approach to the debt restructuring process. Since defaulting on the bond in December 2022, Ethiopia has struggled to make meaningful progress in restructuring its debt. The government's surprise announcement to reduce the bond's principal to $800 million, citing the need to align with debt relief offered by official creditors, has further complicated negotiations. With the bond now trading at 77 cents on the dollar, the situation has raised concerns among investors about the future of Ethiopia's financial obligations and its overall economic trajectory. Despite securing a $3.4 billion financing program from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in July, the Ethiopian government has yet to provide clarity on its restructuring plans. The IMF, which did not comment on the proposed haircut, has set criteria for good faith negotiations, including timely dialogue and transparency. However, the lack of communication from Ethiopian officials has left bondholders uncertain about the path forward, with many questioning the viability of the government's current approach. In an interview with Kiss Fresh UK , Davido credited the global success of Afrobeats, African cuisine, and other cultural elements for earning respect for Africans in the West. “This summer, I was in Europe a lot, and I saw that things have changed,” he said. “Two years ago, they were playing Afrobeats for a full hour. Now, even American artists want to do Afrobeats instead of their usual sound". “The perception of Africans has shifted, and there’s more respect now—not just in music, but in fashion and food as well,” Davido added. • Arsenal Deterred by Osimhen's Steep Asking Price | Xtrafrica

Arsenal Deterred by Osimhen's Steep Asking Price Prince Jean Aug 14, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Arsenal may face challenges in acquiring top forward targets Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, according to sources speaking with Football Insider. Credit:gettyimages Arsenal remains active in the summer transfer market, with potential forward acquisitions still under consideration, according to Football Insider. Despite the looming departures of Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe—Nketiah's transfer to Marseille having recently fallen through—the North London club is poised to reallocate funds to strengthen their attacking lineup. Manager Mikel Arteta, along with Arsenal's recruitment team, is currently reassessing both their squad and available forwards across Europe. The Gunners have expressed a longstanding interest in Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Sporting CP's Gyokeres. However, securing either striker may prove financially challenging, as both are expected to command fees nearing the club-record £105 million paid for Declan Rice in 2023. Osimhen, with 76 goals from 133 appearances for Napoli since 2020, has positioned himself as one of the premier strikers globally and has attracted attention from high-spending clubs like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Gyokeres, although a relatively new face on the European scene, has made a significant impact by netting 43 goals in 50 matches during the 2023-24 season for Sporting. As the transfer window approaches its final weeks, Arsenal's strategy will be crucial in determining whether they can secure a top-tier forward without surpassing their budget constraints. Man City’s Fragility Exposed: Guardiola Reacts to Shocking 3-3 Draw Prince Jean Nov 27, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Pep Guardiola reacts after Manchester City’s 3-3 draw with Feyenoord, questioning the team’s stability despite leading 3-0. Credit:gettyimages Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, said his team is “fragile” and “not stable” after they gave up a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the Champions League. Erling Haaland scored two goals, and Ilkay Gundogan added another with a deflected shot. However, Feyenoord came back with goals from Anis Hadj-Moussa, Santiago Gimenez, and David Hancko to earn a draw. Speaking to Amazon Prime, Guardiola explained: “The game was fine at 3-0, playing good, but then we conceded a lot of goals because we were not stable. We gave them the first and then the other one, that is why it was difficult.” He added, “We have lost many games recently, and we are fragile. We needed this win for confidence. We were playing well, but when something happens, we struggle. I don’t know if it’s mental. The first and second goals shouldn’t happen. After that, we lost focus and got desperate. At this level, we cannot give away goals like that.” Kenyan Federation Elections Sammy Owino Pledges to Eradicate Corruption in Kenyan Football English Premier League Amorim Calls for Bravery as Manchester United Prepares to Face Arsenal AFCON Build_Ups Uganda Allocates Shs350 Billion for CHAN 2025 Preparations English Premier League Ipswich Captain Faces Backlash After Declining Rainbow Armband Related Posts Sammy Owino Pledges to Eradicate Corruption in Kenyan Football Kenyan Federation Elections . Death Toll from Kampala Garbage Landslide Rises to 35, Dozens Still Missing Ayize claire Aug 16, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link People gather as volunteers search to retrieve the bodies of residents killed by a landslide due to heavy rainfall in a landfill known as Kiteezi The death toll from a devastating garbage landslide in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, has risen to 35, according to police reports on Friday. Among the victims, 12 were identified as young people, while at least 28 others remain missing. The tragedy struck late last Friday at the Kiteezi landfill, located on the northern outskirts of Kampala. A massive chunk of the garbage mound collapsed, burying dozens of nearby homes while residents were asleep. The landfill, which has served as Kampala’s primary waste dump for decades, has long been a source of concern for local residents, who have voiced complaints about hazardous waste polluting the environment and posing significant risks to the community. Since Wednesday, authorities have recovered nine more bodies, adding to the previously reported 26 fatalities. However, identifying some of the newly retrieved bodies has been a challenge, as they were badly decomposed due to the impact of the landslide. The incident followed weeks of torrential rain that have wreaked havoc across Uganda, causing widespread flooding and destruction in various parts of the East African country. The heavy rains triggered the collapse of the garbage mound, further highlighting the dangers posed by poorly managed waste sites in urban areas. Similar incidents have occurred elsewhere in Africa. In 2017, a tragic landslide at a municipal dump in Ethiopia claimed the lives of at least 115 people, underscoring the ongoing risks of inadequate waste management in densely populated regions. • Nigeria's Rising Star Set to Take the Stage in London | Xtrafrica

Nigeria's Rising Star Set to Take the Stage in London Prince Jean Sep 29, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Ruger Embraces Independence Ahead of London Headline Show: A Journey of Growth and Innovation. Credit:gettyimages This year has been a turning point for Ruger, the 24-year-old Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, who has boldly embraced independence by parting ways with his former record label to launch his own. Reflecting on this pivotal decision, Ruger describes the experience as both enlightening and challenging. "I understand the business more now," Ruger reveals, acknowledging that the new venture brings added responsibilities but also greater creative freedom. "It's more stressful, but I feel more enlightened and at peace." As Ruger prepares for his highly anticipated debut headline show in London, his excitement is palpable. Set to perform at HERE at Outernet on Sunday, 29 September, the artist reflects on the significance of Britain’s capital for Afrobeats. "London plays a key role in global Afrobeats," Ruger explains. "If your song is big here, it's big around the world." With his distinctive sound and unique blend of Jamaican Patois and Afrobeats, Ruger has carved a niche for himself in the music industry. He prides himself on never repeating melodies, ensuring each track feels fresh and original. "My delivery is different, my lyricism is different," he says confidently. "That's why you know a Ruger song when you hear it." Born and raised in Lagos, Ruger's music draws on his African roots while incorporating global influences, particularly from the Jamaican artists he grew up listening to, such as Chronixx, Popcaan, and Buju Banton. This fusion of dancehall and Afrobeats has helped him master a unique sound that sets him apart. His hit song Asiwaju , which peaked at number two on the UK Afrobeats chart, remains one of his biggest successes, amassing over 127 million streams on Spotify and 113 million views on YouTube. Ruger’s shift from traditional Afrobeats to a more dancehall-infused sound happened naturally, while working on his song Warning in the studio with Nigerian producer KukBeatz two years ago. "I told him, 'I think I'm going to stick with this sound. Nobody is killing it the way I just did,'" Ruger recalls. With 2.5 million Instagram followers, over four million monthly Spotify listeners, and multiple chart-topping hits, Ruger’s rise since his debut five years ago is undeniable. Emerging artists have taken notice of his innovative approach, with many inspired by the unique energy he brings to the scene. "I feel like the new artists are learning from the way I do things," Ruger says. "I'm creating another path, doing my own thing." Known for his signature pink hair and eyepatch, Ruger underscores the importance of individuality in the music industry. He encourages aspiring musicians to identify what makes their sound distinct and to stay true to it. Ruger has also learned from conflicts in the spotlight. His public feud with fellow Nigerian singer BNXN (formerly Buju) made headlines in recent years, fueled by fan comparisons and culminating in competition at the 2022 Headies Awards, where BNXN won a coveted prize. However, the two artists have since reconciled, collaborating on the joint album RnB , released earlier this year. "We grow, and we elevate together," Ruger reflects. "That's the most important thing." Looking ahead, Ruger is eager to collaborate with global superstars like Doja Cat, Future, and Adele, whose "soft voice" he envisions blending harmoniously with his own. As the global influence of Afrobeats grows—earning its own categories at the Grammys and MTV VMAs—Ruger remains concerned about the genre's potential dilution. He criticizes some artists for lacking authenticity, stating that commercial success should not come at the expense of musical integrity. "Some people just go into the studio, create something, and because there’s money to push it, the world is forced to like it," Ruger says. Despite these challenges, Ruger is determined to stay true to his craft and evolve on his own terms. "Times change, but you either change with it or do whatever you like," he says. "For now, I’m focused on the present and giving my fans the best." Ruger’s London headline show is set to be a landmark moment in his career, marking his continued rise in the music industry. Fuel Queues in Nigeria Lengthen Amid NNPC Supply Issues Ayize claire Jul 29, 2024 Facebook X (Twitter) WhatsApp Copy link Fuel queues stretched across major Nigerian cities Fuel queues stretched across major Nigerian cities on Monday as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) faced challenges in supplying gasoline to local traders and depots. This operational hitch has exacerbated the fuel scarcity problem, leaving many Nigerians waiting in long lines. President Bola Tinubu's government had opened up gasoline imports to private companies last year. However, persistent foreign currency shortages and a cap on petrol prices have left NNPC as the sole importer. The much-anticipated Dangote Refinery is yet to commence gasoline processing, adding to the supply woes. Olufemi Soneye, an NNPC spokesperson, stated over the weekend that the fuel supply and distribution issues in parts of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory were due to a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels. This statement came as fuel queues began forming across the country. Retail gasoline prices have surged to over 800 naira ($0.5063) per litre, up from around 617 naira in May 2023, when the government announced the end of gasoline subsidies. The significant price increase has contributed to the already high inflation rates in Nigeria, exacerbating the cost of living crisis for many Nigerians.
