Rwanda’s national team, the Amavubi, defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 in their final Group D AFCON 2025 Qualifier. Despite Nigeria having already secured qualification and topping the group, Rwanda pulled off an unexpected win in Nigeria.

The Super Eagles took the lead in the 59th minute through Samuel Chukwueze. Rwanda equalized in the 72nd minute with a goal from Aimable Mutsinzi, and just three minutes later, Innocent Nshuti scored the decisive goal, sealing victory for the visitors.

The result puts Rwanda in third place in Group D with eight points, behind Benin, who held Libya to a goalless draw and finished with nine points. Nigeria remains group leaders with 11 points despite the loss.

Rwanda’s victory is a significant moment, highlighting their ability to compete with stronger teams. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will reflect on their performance as they prepare for the main AFCON tournament.
