WAR in DRC 08 December: FARDC Advances Against M23 Rebels

After eight days of intense fighting between the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the M23 rebels, FARDC troops are advancing toward the city of Kanyabayonga.

On Monday, December 9, the fiercest clashes were reported in Kimaka, located 30 kilometers southwest of Kanyabayonga in Lubero territory. According to civil society sources in Buleusa, heavy and light weapon fire was heard from 6 a.m., forcing many residents to flee to nearby areas like Buleusa, Lusogha, and even into the bush for safety.

FARDC Strongly Resists RDF/M23 Advances in Front-Nord Operations

For the fifth straight day, FARDC has shown resilience in the ongoing battles along the Front-Nord. The national forces are fiercely responding to attacks from the RDF-backed M23 rebels, who continue to face setbacks on the battlefield.

Despite attempts by the RDF/M23 to advance, the loyal FARDC forces are giving no room for the enemy to regroup or recover. Heavy shelling and tactical counterattacks by FARDC have kept the pressure on the rebels, highlighting their inability to maintain control in the operational zone.

Authorities urge the civilian population to remain calm and steadfast as FARDC continues its mission to protect the sovereignty of the DRC. The ongoing clashes persist despite repeated violations of ceasefire agreements by the RDF/M23 forces.

The determination of FARDC and the unwavering support of the Congolese people and patriots like Wazalendo underline the collective resolve to safeguard the nation’s territory and dignity. The fight for peace and justice continues.
