Transport Minister Barbara Creecy will officially launch the 2024 festive season road safety campaign in Tshwane on Sunday. The launch coincides with World Remembrance Day, occurring just weeks before the expected surge in holiday travel.

The campaign, running from December to mid-January, seeks to reduce road accidents during the busy holiday season. Authorities will focus on combating drunk driving, enhancing pedestrian safety, and increasing law enforcement presence on high-risk routes.

With traffic expected to increase significantly, intensified operations will target both major highways and residential areas. The event will also pay tribute to the 69 traffic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty and commemorate those who have died on South Africa’s roads.

Creecy will be accompanied by provincial transport MECs, law enforcement officials, and family members in this solemn and significant initiative.
