President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged African leaders to prioritize unity and development by focusing on the welfare and needs of their people. Speaking at a state dinner in Paris hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, Tinubu emphasized the importance of collaboration and people-centered governance across Africa.
Accompanied by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and other dignitaries, including WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Tinubu expressed gratitude for France’s commitment to Africa, calling it a valuable partnership for progress. He lauded France’s history of fighting for democracy and freedom as a source of inspiration for African leadership.
“We have no choice but to build a continent that connects, resonates for its people, and cares about the people and development,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the need for action over rhetoric in achieving sustainable growth.
The Nigerian leader acknowledged the presence of key Nigerian figures like Aliko Dangote and Tony Elumelu at the event, stressing the importance of investment and strong ties between Africa and its global partners.
Macron, in turn, praised Nigeria’s resilience and leadership on the continent, calling it a “formidable country” with exceptional talent. He highlighted longstanding French investments in Nigeria and pointed to opportunities in solid minerals, emerging tech, and the creative industries.
Tinubu assured that Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms would contribute to a brighter future for Africa. “We must brace up for the future with commitment and optimism,” he said.
The dinner underscored the deep ties between Nigeria and France, with both leaders expressing optimism about continued collaboration for mutual growth.
