Many Ghanaians are talking about the damage done to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's statue at Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Takoradi. The statue, put up on November 6, 2024, has faced mixed opinions since its creation. On December 16, 2024, people noticed that the statue’s left leg was broken.

The Ghana Police Service has started investigating the incident to find out who is responsible.

On social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), many people have shared their thoughts. Some feel the damage was illegal, while others think the statue shouldn’t have been built in the first place.

One user said,

“What’s the importance of that statue? Akufo-Addo hasn’t lived up to expectations and doesn’t deserve that statue built for him. He’s not Kwame Nkrumah. That statue is irrelevant.”

Another person added,

“In fact, Akufo-Addo doesn’t deserve to be honoured with anything iconic in Ghana as a country, because of his reckless, clueless, arrogant, partisan, and discriminatory inhumane attitude towards the same citizens he begged for votes. I wish we dismantle such a theft statue.”

Some even told the police not to waste their time, saying, “Ghana Police, please do not waste your time on this useless Akufo-Addo statue. What did he do for Ghanaians? He came to steal and destroy.”

Other critics said the statue was an insult to the Western Region. One person commented, “This is concert news. That guy Akufo-Addo is arrogant. Can’t you people see he did nothing for the country? He brings a poor economy and wants to build just a statue for Takoradi.”

Another added, “I think it’s time we start this campaign to undo that insult of a statue Akufo-Addo has placed in Takoradi.”

Criticism continued with people referencing unfinished projects and unfair treatment of the Western Region. One person mentioned,

“If Bawumia had won Western, it would pain me, especially where Akufo-Addo and Bawumia failed to complete the Market Circle Market, the interchange, but relocated the power barge from Western to Kumasi. As if that was not enough, a statue was erected for him.”

The reactions have shown anger and frustration over the statue, with many calling for it to be removed.
