The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also called Chairman Wontumi, has urged Ghanaians to back the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as the December 7 elections approach.

During a press conference on Thursday, November 21, Chairman Wontumi highlighted Dr. Bawumia’s ability to unite people and his respectful demeanor, saying these traits are important for Ghana’s growth.

He praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and called on Ghanaians to avoid divisive politics.“Dr. Bawumia represents unity and civility, essential qualities for the nation’s progress.

He does not engage in divisive politics or encourage insults. Let us come together and support a leader who prioritizes unity and national development,” Chairman Wontumi said.

Chairman Wontumi also expressed concern about an increase in political insults, mentioning recent comments made against former President John Agyekum Kufuor.

He showed disappointment in criticisms directed at the former President, particularly remarks from Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Movement for Change (MFC).“Kufuor’s achievements speak for themselves and are evident for all to see.

What has he done to deserve such disrespect? It is deeply disappointing to see individuals being sponsored to insult and tarnish the reputation of others. As Ghanaians, we must reject the politics of insults and uphold the values that define us as a nation,” he added.

His remarks followed criticisms by Dela Edem, an aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, who mocked Mr. Kufuor over his use of a wheelchair.
