Aimable KARASIRA UZARAMBA, Freedom fighter in Rwanda

One of Rwanda's freedom fighters, currently imprisoned at Mageragere Prison, a national prison in Rwanda, has spoken out after attending a court hearing. In his statement, he compared the Rwandan Constitution and laws to a dwarf, implying their ineffectiveness or limitations.

He added, "You cannot imagine how difficult it is for 1994 genocide survivors to live alongside those who killed our families while struggling to survive on their own. It's like being burned in a charcoal process." He also claimed that the second-in-command of the Rwanda Correctional Service had tortured him, just as he did to Paul Rusesabagina and other journalists and freedom fighters, such as Hakuzimana Abdullah Rachid, who have been left to rot without any sunlight. He further alleged that they had been locked up with notorious criminals, such as Kazungu Denis, one of Rwanda’s most infamous killers.

Meanwhile, he suggested that public figures like former Minister Edouard Bamporiki and former Western Province Governor Emmanuel Gasana appear to be imprisoned, but in reality, they are not. He claimed that it seemed like they were on holiday, with former retired Major General Emmanuel Gasana even allegedly fleeing the prison to attend parties and ceremonies hosted by his family regularly.

In conclusion, he made a plea for human rights organizations and humanitarian NGOs to intervene, as they did for Paul Rusesabagina.
