CAF general secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba’s resignation comes at a delicate moment for African football, with the continental body still dealing with the fallout from the disputed Afcon final and wider questions about governance.

His departure, announced after a controversial tenure, lands as confidence in CAF’s decision-making faces renewed scrutiny as cited by BBC News.

The timing is significant because the organisation is still under pressure over its handling of the final between Senegal and Morocco.

AP reported that Senegal has formally challenged CAF’s decision to strip it of the title and has taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, turning what began as a football controversy into a broader test of institutional credibility.

That credibility issue has deepened because the final itself was not merely contentious on the pitch but also became a disciplinary and legal dispute afterward.

It was reported that CAF’s appeals body ruled Senegal had forfeited the match after players briefly left the field in protest, converting the original result into a 3-0 win for Morocco.

Mosengo-Omba’s exit therefore matters beyond one executive change. It places fresh attention on how CAF manages major disputes, communicates sensitive rulings, and protects trust in its competitions at a time when African football’s top governing body can least afford a prolonged crisis.
