LOS ANGELES, USA, Media mogul Tyler Perry is at the center of a shocking $260 million lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon, who accuses the Hollywood billionaire of sexual assault, harassment, and professional retaliation during his time working on Perry’s TV shows The Oval and Ruthless.

Dixon alleges that Perry used his industry power to create a “coercive and sexually exploitative” environment, promising career growth while allegedly subjecting him to escalating abuse when he refused Perry’s sexual advances.

According to the lawsuit, Dixon first met Perry at a 2019 event for Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. What began as a career opportunity, he claims, spiraled into unwanted advances, sexual manipulation, and threats to his professional future.

Mr. Perry made it clear to Dixon that if he didn’t keep him ‘happy,’ his character would be killed off,” the lawsuit reads.

Dixon was eventually cast in both Ruthless and The Oval, but alleges that Perry continually pressured him with inappropriate comments, physical advances, and private encounters, including incidents where Perry allegedly pinned him to a wall and fondled him on set, and in another instance, entered Dixon’s guest bedroom uninvited and touched him inappropriately.

Tyler Perry’s legal team has strongly denied the claims, calling the lawsuit a “shakedown.”

This is an individual who got close to Tyler Perry for what now appears to be nothing more than setting up a scam,” Perry’s attorney Matthew Boyd said in a statement. “But Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims will fail.”

The lawsuit also compares Perry’s alleged behavior to figures like Harvey Weinstein, R. Kelly, and Diddy, stating that his power and success in Hollywood have created a dangerous culture of impunity.

Tyler Perry has been using his influence to molest, abuse, and exploit young male actors and employees,” the complaint alleges, adding that the film mogul has a pattern of targeting vulnerable talent under the guise of mentorship.

Dixon claims he eventually walked away from his role on The Oval and declined an offer to work as a writer for Perry, citing continued harassment and emotional trauma.

What’s Next?

The case is now before a Los Angeles court, where both sides are expected to present evidence. Meanwhile, Perry, a symbol of Black excellence in entertainment, faces one of the most serious allegations of his career, both personally and professionally.

As the story develops, questions around power, consent, and accountability in the entertainment industry are once again under public scrutiny.
