Tshisekedi Funds GENOCOST Strategy, Advances Museum

President Félix Tshisekedi has announced a new set of measures aimed at transforming the commemoration of GENOCOST into a permanent national programme focused on memory, victim recognition, justice and international advocacy.

Speaking during the national GENOCOST commemoration in Kinshasa on August 2, the President instructed the government to include the National GENOCOST Ownership Strategy in the state budget.

According to the Presidency, this funding is intended to advance fair reparations for survivors and ensure that support for victims is treated as a national responsibility.

National GENOCOST Museum Moves Forward

President Tshisekedi also announced that the proposed National GENOCOST Museum is entering its operational phase, with preparatory studies and design work now underway.

The government envisions the museum as a major institution for preserving archives, testimonies and physical evidence connected to crimes committed on Congolese territory.

It is also expected to serve as a research centre, a place of remembrance and an educational institution where younger generations can learn about the country’s history.

The government’s objective is to create a museum capable of meeting high scientific and architectural standards and becoming a reference institution in Africa and internationally.

Strengthening Transitional Justice

The President called on Parliament to complete legislation needed to strengthen the DRC’s transitional-justice system.
