Thukuthela a South African singer Kgotso Dube
Thukuthela, born Kgotso Dube, is a South African vocalist whose emotionally weighted delivery became one of the defining voices of the country’s 3-step movement.
Raised in Daveyton on Gauteng’s East Rand, he built his breakthrough partnership with producer JAZZWRLD and moved from sleeping in studios to national charts in little more than a year. “Vuka,” “Isaka (6am),” “Bengicela,” “Uzizwa Kanjan,” “Tholukuthi” and “uValo” established his range across Afro-house, Afro-tech and amapiano-influenced dance music.
The pair’s 2025 album The Most Wanted turned that singles run into a complete body of work, while three Metro FM Music Awards in 2026 confirmed their rapid rise.
Who is Thukuthela? Thukuthela is South African singer Kgotso Dube, a Daveyton-born 3-step and Afro-house vocalist best known for his work with JAZZWRLD. His expressive voice powers hits including “Vuka,” “Isaka (6am)” and “Uzizwa Kanjan,” while The Most Wanted became the duo’s breakthrough album.
Early Life and Creative Roots
Thukuthela’s real name is Kgotso Dube. A 2026 profile from Daveyton-based Say It Again Media identifies him as a son of the township on Johannesburg’s East Rand. Daveyton has produced an important line of dance-music artists, but Thukuthela has said that many musicians from his own area did not initially know he came from there.
Reliable public sources have not established his date of birth, current age, parents, siblings or school history. Those details should therefore not be filled with estimates. What the available interviews do show is a musician who worked for years before the wider public saw the result. His life story enters the documented record most clearly through studio sessions, local performances and the partnership that changed his career.
The name Thukuthela belongs to Kgotso Dube as an individual artist; it is not the name of his duo. He frequently works beside JAZZWRLD, born Kamohelo Monese, but both retain their own artist identities. That distinction matters because Dube’s role is centred on voice, melody and emotionally direct writing, while JAZZWRLD shapes much of the production architecture around him.
Breakthrough and Rise to Fame
Thukuthela and JAZZWRLD met through management after pursuing music separately. In an OkayAfrica interview, Thukuthela described the immediate creative fit:
