Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has opted out of the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nominations, despite being eligible and maintaining a positive relationship with event organisers, Charterhouse.
His absence from the nominations list raised questions among fans, particularly following a year in which the artist released several popular tracks. However, organisers have clarified that the decision was not due to exclusion but rather a deliberate choice made by the artist’s management.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, TGMA spokesperson Robert Klah explained that Shatta Wale has been eligible to participate since February 12, 2021, when his previous ban was lifted. The ban had been imposed in 2019 after an on-stage altercation at the awards ceremony.
Klah stated that, despite the restored eligibility, the artist’s team communicated their preference not to participate in the scheme. He added that the relationship between Shatta Wale and Charterhouse remains cordial.
According to the organisers, the artist has engaged with Charterhouse in recent meetings, indicating a cooperative working relationship. The option for future participation remains open, should his management decide otherwise.
