Nigerian singer Seun Kuti has made new claims about the personal life of his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, particularly regarding his relationships and health history.

Speaking during an Instagram livestream, Seun Kuti alleged that Fela did not restrict his wives from engaging in relationships with other men. According to him, this approach contributed to complications later in Fela’s life.

He further claimed that some of Fela’s partners may have contracted HIV from other relationships and subsequently transmitted it to the musician. This assertion challenges widely held assumptions that Fela was responsible for infecting his partners.

Kuti stated that his father believed in mutual freedom within his relationships, allowing his wives to see other partners under certain conditions, including not bringing those relationships into his home.

Despite the claims, Seun Kuti described his father as a figure who stood for humanity, while acknowledging that he made personal mistakes.
