President William Ruto on Wednesday met Muhoho Kenyatta brother of former president Uhuru Kenyatta during an official event at State House, Nairobi.

Muhoho was among the invited guests at the Presidential Gold Awards Presentation, which Ruto presided over. He attended in his role as a representative of the International Council of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, according to The Star.

During his remarks, Ruto briefly paused to recognise Muhoho in the audience, prompting attention from other attendees. The moment drew public interest given the long-running political tensions that have at times surrounded the president and the Kenyatta family.

It was  reported that 1,252 awardees received Gold-level recognition at the ceremony for resilience, leadership and sustained commitment.

The President’s Award-Kenya is part of a structured youth development programme for young people aged 14 to 24, and is presented in three levels Bronze, Silver and Gold across four sections, with an additional residential project required at Gold level.

Introduced in Kenya in 1966, the scheme has reached close to half a million participants over time, according to the programme’s official website.
