Nigerian Afro-house star Niniola is opening up about the man she says changed her life—and saved her music career.
In an emotional video that surfaced online this week, the Grammy-nominated singer paid tribute to her late husband, Michael Ndika, describing him as the person who believed in her long before the world did. According to videos shared by @ChuksEricE on X, the heartfelt moment took place during an event held in honour of Ndika following his death in May.
Fighting back tears, Niniola reflected on a relationship she called a true love story, revealing how deeply involved her husband was in both her personal life and professional journey.
Michael Ndika, who passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 44, was the CEO of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform known for covering Afro-house and contemporary African music. Beyond his role in the industry, Niniola said he became the architect of her success.
Speaking during the tribute, the singer recalled meeting Ndika when she was still finding her footing. She described herself as naturally reserved and said her husband pushed her to dream bigger than she ever imagined.
According to Niniola, Ndika constantly reassured her that she was destined for greatness. While fans saw her as the voice and face behind the music, she believes her husband was the force working behind the scenes to keep everything moving.
One of the most emotional revelations from her speech was that there was a period when she considered stepping away from music entirely. But Ndika refused to let her give up.
The singer credited him with encouraging her to continue at a time when she was ready to walk away from the industry. Looking back, she said his faith in her talent played a major role in the career she enjoys today.
Niniola also spoke about the emptiness left behind by his passing. She described Ndika as the first person she saw every morning and the last person she spoke to every night, making the adjustment to life without him especially painful.
She went on to thank the Ndika family for welcoming her as one of their own and acknowledged the wave of emotions that followed the public announcement of his death.
The news shocked many fans because few people knew that Niniola had been married. Last week, the singer revealed that she and Ndika had shared 13 years together, a detail that caught much of the entertainment industry by surprise.
As tributes continue to pour in, Niniola’s emotional testimony has offered fans a rare glimpse into the private love story behind one of Africa’s most respected Afro-house artists—a story of partnership, belief, and unwavering support that helped shape her journey to stardom.
