Ghanaian rapper Medikal has stated that he believes he deserves to be named Artiste of the Year at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), citing his achievements and influence over the past year.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the artist highlighted his consistency, industry impact, and independent career path as factors that set him apart from other nominees. He noted that his journey has included challenges, but said those experiences have strengthened his resolve.

“Sometimes you need to fail to win. That failure shouldn’t break you as a human being. It never broke me, and I’m still here,” he said.

Medikal also pointed to his support for emerging artists as part of his contribution to the music industry. According to him, he has provided free collaborations to upcoming musicians, despite typically charging high fees for such features.

The rapper further emphasized his independence, noting that he has built his brand without the backing of a record label. He described his self-funded concert at the Accra Sports Stadium as a major milestone, stating that it drew audiences from Ghana and neighboring countries.

“I’m an independent artiste, no label. One man,” he said, referencing the scale of investment and turnout for the event.

Medikal added that his body of work, including new music releases and performances over the past year, supports his claim to the award. He maintained that his overall contributions make him a strong contender for the top honor at this year’s TGMA.
