Formative Life: From Rwamagana Choirs to a Radio Break

Marina was born on 28 August 1997 in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province. A detailed 2021 InyaRwanda profile reports that she was the eldest of two children and grew up with both parents before moving to Kigali. Their names are not established strongly enough in dependable public records to include.

Music began in church. As a child, she sang with the Intama za Yesu choir at ADEPR and later joined the Azaph choir at Zion Temple. She studied accounting at ESSA Nyarugunga in Kanombe, but a radio competition supplied the practical opening into music. In November 2016, she won an Airtel-backed contest on Kiss FM after performing a cover of Yvan Buravan’s “Urwo Ngukunda.” Uncle Austin, who was involved with the programme, became an early guide in her career.
